NBA Draft: Team preview series introduction

THE NBA Draft is just over a month away, and with the lottery taking place earlier this week, the frame for the outcome is becoming clearer by the day.

During the lead-up to the draft, Rookie Me Central will be taking a look at all 30 teams and how the draft is shaping for each side. The article – which kick off next week – will analyse each team and what their needs and likely outcomes for draft night. With every club in a different position, there is a lot of variation when it comes to draft goals and targets, so these articles should make it easier to interpret one of the biggest nights on the basketball calendar.

During the lottery on Wednesday morning, the San Antonio Spurs were awarded the number-one pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, and seem certain to select French big man Victor Wembanyama, who has been touted as a generational prospect. It was a highly sought pick, with the phenom gathering the most amount of hype since LeBron James back in 2003.

However, that seems the only cemented selection so far, with a number of questions looming ahead of a life-changing night for the best and brightest young players. With a number of potential stars in this year’s draft crop, there is a wealth of hype surrounding the potential selections in the world’s biggest basketball league.

Will the Charlotte Hornets take the best available player with the second pick in Scoot Henderson? Perhaps they could opt for a better fit in Brandon Miller, who has been dealing with off-court issues but would slot in smoother next to Lamelo Ball.

Who are some players that could slide and be seen as bargains on draft night? Where will former New Zealand Breaker Rayan Rupert land, and which side is in need of a player of his calibre and mould?

All of these questions and more will be answered in our upcoming series, with multiple articles per week set to get you as prepared as possible for the upcoming draft. Stay tuned to our Basketball Rookie Me Central site for all the articles as they drop, and make sure to follow our socials for all the latest basketball news and updates.
