NBA Draft Wrap – Warriors and Wizards

THE NBA Draft has wrapped up, and the next crop of players at the top level are now fully entrenched in their respective teams as season approaches in the coming months.

In fact, with the Summer League taking place over the past few weeks, some of the brightest draftees have already begun making a name for themselves in the NBA, with a fair few catching the eye with dominant performances.

With some exposed form to work off, Rookie Me Central will be taking a look at how each side fared on draft night – one of the biggest events on the world basketball calendar.

We have reached our final article of the series, today taking a look at the Golden State Warriors and Washington Wizards to round things out.

Golden State Warriors

The Warriors have been one of the most successful teams of the modern era, and still remain in contention given their stacked roster. However, each draft offers up a look at how the side will look in the future.

With its first round selection, Golden State acquired Brandin Podziemski with pick 19. The two guard will add to the team’s backcourt presence, offering a look ahead beyond the retirement of stars Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. He is a lights-out shooter, much like the names mentioned there, and will learn greatly from some of the best the game has ever seen.

While the Warriors only entered the draft with the one pick, they traded for the services of Trayce Jackson-Davis later in the night. He is a power forward who brings plenty of experience at age 23, and offers a post up game to go with a solid amount of range when scoring the rock.

Washington Wizards

The Wizards are in the midst of a full-blown rebuild, finalised by trading Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns, so the draft was a vital time for them.

First up, the Wizards snagged draft bolter Bilal Coulibaly with the seventh pick of the night. A teammate of Victor Wembanyama, there was no player that stormed up the rankings as much as Coulibaly did over the past few months. He is a gifted athlete who has plenty of upside, perhaps some of the most of any player. His time playing in France proved there is enough to justify him as a top-10 pick, which the Wizards did.

With their second pick of the night, the Wizards chose Tristan Vukcevic, the seven-foot Serbian who was worth a punt late in the second round. The skilled big man is the perfect fit for the modern NBA, with the ability to impact the game in a number of ways.
