AFTER a five-game two-round period, Australia’s future basketball stars get a break in Round 3, as Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence have a bye over the weekend. Of those teams that can plan for a big weekend, Melbourne Tigers will double up against Waverley Falcons and Knox Raiders, Frankston Blues will have a day’s break between a home game against Geelong Supercats and travelling to Bendigo on Sunday, while Geelong will do the opposite when they host Eltham Wildcats on Sunday. It will also be the second game for Eltham, having played Nunawading Spectres on Friday night. Bendigo Braves double up with a Saturday game against Kilsyth Cobras, while Knox Raiders face both the Tigers and Southern Sabres and the Cobras face the Braves and Ringwood Hawks.
In what will be a historic first, Hobart Huskies take on their fellow Tasmanian side in North West Thunder on Saturday, while in the other two games, Albury Wodonga Bandits host Diamond Valley Eagles, and Dandenong Rangers welcome Ballarat Miners – both games on Saturday. Among the players to watch to see if they can continue their good scoring form are Nunawading Spectres’ Dain Swetalla and Waverley Falcons’ Deondre McWhorter, while Albury Wodonga’s Torren Jones and Bendigo Braves’ Ray Turner are some to watch on the defensive boards.
