NBL and WNBL suffer fixtures interruption
AS has happened in the last 24 months, sporting competitions across the world have found themselves disrupted due to issues relating to the outbreak of COVID-19. As the world looks to find a sense of normality again, these interruptions have still continued with the easing of restrictions. This has taken a toll on plenty of leagues around the globe and the latest victims are two of Australia’s biggest basketball leagues.
The National Basketball League (NBL) was set to have five clashes go ahead with the weekend approaching, following just two matches last round. However, four of these have since been postponed with the season thrown into chaos.
‘The Hungry Jack’s National Basketball League (NBL) has made changes to the Round 6 schedule in line with its Covid health and safety protocols, and respective state government close contact requirements,’ the League said in a statement.
‘The health and safety of the players, coaches, clubs, staff and fans is the League’s number one priority when considering these matters.
‘The NBL will continue to follow the advice of governments and health authorities. Regular testing of all players and staff will continue, while further testing will be carried out on individuals impacted or those deemed close contacts.’
Despite these changes, fans will still get to enjoy one match this weekend. That will be when the Brisbane Bullets host the New Zealand Breakers at Nissan Arena at 3pm on Sunday. We discussed that matchup as a part of our NBL Round 6 preview, which you can check out below.
