Nowell’s notable season gives Capital City some Go-Go

IT WAS a seriously strong season from Capital City Go-Go guard Jaylen Nowell, who moved one step closer to joining the NBA once again after putting together an excellent campaign in the G League over the past few months.
The former second round draft pick in the 2019 NBA Draft signed with the Go-Go after struggling to maintain a spot at the top level and producing a strong campaign with the Stockton Kings the season prior.
Although expectations were high, Nowell still surpassed these, emerging as one of the best scorers in the competition and deservingly being named to the All-NBA G League First Team for his efforts to cap off a standout season from an individual standpoint.
There is no denying his ability to find the bottom of the net, with the guard averaging 24 points per game and proving a consistent source of scoring for Capital City. He was undoubtedly the focal point of the team’s offence for the entirety of the season, and rewarded the faith with a productive campaign.
The Go-Go rallied behind his offensive efforts and snuck into the playoffs with a record of 20 wins and 14 losses, with a lot of those wins off the back of some excellent shotmaking from Nowell. Although they ended up falling to the Maine Celtics, it was still a promising season from Capital City, with their star guard at the forefront.
From the field, Nowell shot an impressive 51 per cent, making eight field goals a game and showing an ability to score at all three levels. From behind the arc, he nailed 46 per cent of his attempts and was a constant threat at nailing shots both off the dribble and out of a catch.
Although the team’s primary scorer, Nowell was also extremely creative in his ability to get others into scoring positions, averaging 5.6 assists per game. He was able to draw the defence in, often bringing out double teams given his own scoring ability, but showed an innate sense of when to pass out of the possession and find a wide open teammate.
He was named the G League Player of the Week for his efforts over a seven-day stretch in February, where he averaged 33.5 points per game, including a 43-point performance that saw him become just the third Go-Go player to score 40-plus in a game.
Never one to shy away from the big moments, he had some massive plays down the stretch for Capital City, and was the team’s go to option when the game was close. It has been a trait of his that has been evident since his draft year, and one of his biggest strength.
Nowell has certainly put his case forward for an NBA recall, and was one of the best performers in the entire G League throughout the 2024/25 season. If NBA sides are in need of an offensive-minded guard who has no troubles finding the bottom of the net, Nowell is certainly a viable option.
