THE Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) had its own standalone week and delivered the goods on the stat sheet. Suzy Batkovic added another accolade to her decorated career, Brittany McPhee is rebounding the ball like no other while the Flames are finally on the winners’ list.
Suzy Batkovic becomes WNBL all-time leading scorer
Suzy Batkovic beat Rachael Sporn’s tally of 5823 points on Thursday night in the Fire’s big win over the Spirit. She is now the highest scorer in history of the WNBL. This adds to her long list of accolades, which includes five WNBL championships, six WNBL Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards and seven appearances in the WNBL All-Star Five team.
Brittany McPhee dominating rebounds
Brittany McPhee is averaging the 10th most rebounds per game in the WNBL. While that doesn’t sound all too flash, McPhee makes it a notable stat, as she averages the highest rebounds out of any guard in the competition. Currently, she is averaging 6.9 boards per game to go along with her other great average of 16.5 points per game.
Sydney Uni breaks 10-game winning streak
After experiencing a dismal start to the season, the Flames finally got a much-needed victory against the Spirit. Sydney Uni dominated the game and ended up with a 21-point win, thanks to big efforts from Brittany Smart and Tahlia Tupaea on the scoring front. The Flames have a chance to make it two from two against the Adelaide Lightning in Round 9.
