Peninsula look to bounce back against McKinnon

THE weekend has finally arrived, along with another round of the Big V Women’s Basketball championship. Season 2022 is well and truly underway and there has been a lot of high quality action to enjoy in the first six rounds of the year. There have been some clear standouts, while the middle of the standings remain quite close as the fixture surpasses the one-third mark of the season.

The ladder is reasonably close at the moment, with many sides having played seven games to date, while others have played slightly less or more. At the top of the table is Bulleen, who are unbeaten after seven outings, but the battle for a top-four spot has began to heat up. One of the teams currently in the mix for a finish in the top part of the ladder is McKinnon, currently sit in third spot with four wins from seven games. They will be looking to keep rising in the rankings when they take on Southern Peninsula at GESAC on Sunday afternoon.

McKinnon vs Southern Peninsula Sharks
Saturday, May 8 @ 2pm
GESAC

McKinnon has been pretty good to start the year, planting themselves in the upper echelon of the standings, and playing some pretty good basketball too. They claimed an impressive 20-point win over Chelsea last week, further strengthening claims that they will be gunning for the title at the end of the season. Coming up against a Sharks side that has struggled to start the year, McKinnon will come into the game as the favoured side, but must still bring its best if they are to secure the triumph and potentially climb into second spot. There were five players that registered double-digits in the points column, so there are plenty of ways the home side can hurt you.

The Sharks have not been able to fire in the 2022 season so far, with just one win coming from six games on the year. They had a couple of pretty rough losses last round, scoring just a combined 100 points from two games. Southern Peninsula will seriously need to get their offence going a bit more if they are to post a winning score. The effort will also need to be matched on the defensive end, as they have conceded some pretty big totals of late. Tanarly Hood was a shining light in Round 6, with 16 points against Bulleen, so the Sharks will be looking to give her a bit more help on Sunday.
