SNAPSHOT
A high-motor wing who brings immense athleticism and excellent spot-up shooting, Edgecombe is a readymade NBA prospect who is looming as a top-three selection in a stacked 2025 NBA Draft class, and will be appealing to teams looking to contend in the near future.
Competing with Ace Bailey for the third overall selection - which currently belongs to the Philadelphia 76ers. who are in win-now mode - Edgecombe may get the nod based on his athletic profile, which is ready to convert to the top level.
DRAFT PROFILE
After emigrating from the Bahamas and attending high school in New York, Edgecombe made a name for himself as the state's premier talent, emerging as a consensus five-star recruit and impressing even further when pitted against his peers at the Adidas 3stripes Select Basketball camps.
After receiving offers from the likes of the Kentucky Wildcats and the Duke Blue Devils, Edgecombe decided to take his talents to Baylor, where he was able to showcase his talents and cement himself as a top-five selection in the upcoming draft.
Throughout the 2024/25 season, Edgecombe averaged 15 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.1 steals and 0.6 blocks per game while shooting 43.6 per cent from the field, 34 per cent from long range and 78.2 per cent from the free throw line.
Although it was a rocky season at times for Edgecombe and the Bears, he found his footing eventually as the season rolled on, and competed right through until their elimination in the second round of the NCAA National Tournament at the hands of the Blue Devils.
STRENGTHS
- Elite athleticism
- Spot up shooting
- On-ball defence
- Readymade traits
IMPROVEMENTS
- Shooting off the dribble
- Loose handle
There are few better athletes in the 2025 NBA Draft class than Edgecombe, who brings an excellent vertical at six-foot-five, playing above his height with excellent athletic traits. He can pop up for a chase down block or team-lifting dunk at any given point of the match, and not only does his athleticism help him make an impact, it can often lead to exciting play that can inject energy into his team.
As a spot up shooter, it is evident that Edgecombe has put plenty of work into improving this side of his game over the past couple of years, and is now reliable enough on the perimeter that the defence has to respect him, which opens up the rest of the floor for his teammates.
On the other side of the ball, there is potential for Edgecombe to develop into an All-Defence calibre of player in the coming years. He boasts elite speed laterally, and his reaction time is also extremely impressive, allowing him to read the play as well as anyone.
Vitally, Edgecombe's elite athleticism and physical profile are enough to suggest that he will be able to impact early in his career, and will already be one of the most athletic players in the entire NBA once his name is called out in Chicago.
In terms of improvements, Edgecombe's shooting off the dribble is a key area of concern, shooting 25 per cent from pull up shots, and as a guard/forward in the NBA, it is crucial that this area is developed. If he can continue to develop this side of his game as he has done with his catch-and-shoot, then it will be a huge boost to his shot creation.
DRAFT PROJECTION: Top four
Whether the Sixers look to Edgecombe or Bailey remains to be seen, but the latter has certainly done enough to warrant selection inside the top three, and will be a highlight machine for years to come for whichever side calls his name out.
