Sabres storm past Falcons with big win

THE SANDRINGHAM Sabres recorded a massive win over the Waverley Falcons in the Big V Youth Championship Women’s over the weekend, getting the job done by a whopping 37 points in an emphatic display.
It was a highly anticipated clash coming into Round 14 of the 2025 season, with both sides performing very similar throughout the fixture to date. The two teams had 12 wins to their name coming into the match, and it could be a crucial encounter in the context of the race to the finals.
However, the Sabres proved a class above, storming away in the second half to claim a huge win and overtake the Falcons in the standings as the season slowly draws to a close.

The Sabres managed to grit their way to the lead in the first quarter, after the teams traded baskets early, but a triple to Isabella Stewart helped the visitors get some breathing space. After the first term, the Sabres held a seven-point buffer on the scoreboard, and looked particularly potent on the offensive side of the ball.
The second frame saw a bigger emphasis on defence from both sides, and it resulted in some scrappy play on the eve of half time. Just a combined 22 points were scored for the period, but the Falcons had managed to cut the deficit back to five points at the main change, and were certainly still in with a sniff.
Although it had been a tight contest during the first 20 minutes of play, the third quarter blew the game open as the Sabres snatched control of the match and essentially put the game to bed with still a period to play. They outscored Waverley 26-9 in the third frame and led by 17 points at three-quarter time in a dominant showing.
The fourth quarter was more of the same from the Sabres, putting the foot down in the final 10 minutes of action and pushing the margin out even further. The Falcons were simply no match for Sandringham in the second half, and the visitors ended up cruising home to a comfortable victory.
Sierra Woolhouse did a lot of the damage for the Sabres, dropping an impressive 23 points while shooting an efficient 10/15 from the field and 3/7 from behind the arc. She also recorded four steals and five assists in an excellent individual outing.
Also impressing for Sandringham was Bailey De Forest, who was damaging in her own right on the offensive end, and played a crucial role in getting the Sabres out to such a hefty lead in the second half. She finished the match with 16 points and seven rebounds on 8/10 shooting from the field.
