Sea Eagles soar with superb team performance

THE Manly Warringah Sea Eagles delivered the strongest team outing of the 2023 NBL1 East Women’s season in their massive win over the Hornsby KuRingGai Spiders over the weekend.

The two sides went head to head at the Northern Beaches Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday night, with the Sea Eagles coming in as heavy favourites given the teams are on the opposite ends of the standings. Manly Warringah sits at the top of the table, but is equal with the Falcons on points, so each game still looms as crucial to its season, while the Spiders have managed just the one win and currently occupy 16th position.

Although it would have been an impressive upset for the visitors to pull off, there were no surprises as the Sea Eagles stormed out of the gates with a mesmerising offensive performance in the opening quarter. They took a 40-15 lead into the first change in a pattern that continued to show over the remainder of the game. Manly Warringah dominated all four periods, and cruised home to a massive 91-point victory in front of its home crowd.

Although the Sea Eagles posted a massive score, it was not on the back of any one player as the team delivered a masterfully balanced performance.

The Sea Eagles dominated on every front and looked every bit a championship favourite on their home court on Saturday night.

Of the nine players that saw court time against the Spiders, eight registered 11 or more points in a terrific level of balance on the scoring front. Leading the way was Josie Bulman, who came off the bench to have a true impact. She delivered 22 points in just 23 minutes of court time, thanks to making 11 of her 13 shots from the field.

Starter Kimberly Hodge was not far behind with 20 points of her own, nailing 10 of her 11 attempts, while seeing 20 minutes of court time. She was just as reliable for a basket, and was able to get the right amount of rest given the team’s scoreboard advantage.

As a whole, the Sea Eagles hit 57 per cent of their shots from the field, showcasing how deep the team’s scoring power truly is, and the Spiders defence was completely overwhelmed.

It was a powerful showing from one of the championship favourites, who put Hornsby KuRingGai to the sword with a telling performance and furthered their title credentials at the top of the table.
