Siegrist slams Wildcats home with massive outing
A MAGNIFICENT scoring performance from forward Madison Siegrist has led the Villanova Wildcats to a comfortable victory over the St John’s Red Storm in the NCAAW earlier today.
After a tightly contested first half in which the Red Storm matched it with the opposition despite coming into the game as underdogs. However, a 26-16 third quarter saw Villanova break away on the scoreboard and cruise home to a 16-point triumph at Carnesecca Arena.
The biggest talking point from the match was the performance of Siegrist, who carried the Villanova offence. There were no better scorers on the court than the forward, who dominated in the match-winning third quarter to be the best player out there.
It was an appropriate continuation of what has been an excellent season from the explosive weapon. She is leading the nation in scoring and is fresh off a 50-point performance last week. Siegrist showed she is one of the best offensive players at collegiate level, and her value on this team continues to shine.
Villanova Wildcats (73) def. St John’s Red Storm (57)
Madison Siegrist – 39 points, 11 rebounds
There was no more influential player in the match than Siegrist, who had an explosive third term on her way to a whopping points total.
She finished the match with 39 points, 25 more than the next Villanova player as she put the team on her back on the offensive end. The Wildcats looked for her on the offensive end across all four quarters, running plays that gave Siegrist the best look.
She nailed 15 of her 26 shots from the field, doing most of her work from two-point territory. 12 of her baskets were from inside the arc, attacking the paint ferociously and putting up shots over the opposition with her deft touch.
Siegrist nailed a trio of three-pointers too, taking advantage of the defence’s expectation of an imminent inside basket. When they backed off, the forward was hot enough from the field to strike from downtown.
Of her 39 points, she poured in 19 in the third quarter, leading the Wildcats to a massive term that broke open the match. Siegrist outscored the entire Red Storm side by three points in the third, and was the most dominant factor of the match.
There have been no better scorers in the nation this season than Siegrist, and that trend continued against a helpless Red Storm outfit.
