AHEAD of the 2025 Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) draft, Aussie Georgia Amoore is gearing up for a massive March Madness campaign with the Kentucky Wildcats, and looms as a top 10 selection.
The Ballarat native has been a steady performer throughout her four campaigns in the NCAAW, posting double-digit averages in every season to date. She made a name for herself with the Virginia Tech Hokies, throughout the first three years, but made a blockbuster move to the Wildcats for her Senior campaign, as her WNBA Draft push continues.
Now considered a top 10 contender when the draft takes place on April 14, the guard will be looking to shine under bright lights and cement herself as an early selection, and by donning a Kentucky uniform, will automatically be the centre of attention.
Throughout the 2024/25 NCAAW season, Amoore is posting career-best numbers, and has fully firmed herself as a first-round pick and the most exciting Australian prospect ahead of the WNBA draft, seemingly destined for a strong career at the top level.
Having emerged out of Victoria as a clear standout talent, the guard quickly rose up the ranks and made several appearances at international level for her country. Soon after, the college pathway came knocking, and she joined Virginia Tech.
Amoore made an immediate impact as a creative point guard, who was capable of scoring the rock across all three levels while also proving extremely productive as a playmaker, making life much easier for her teammates.
As the years rolled on, she improved as a scorer tremendously, looking much more confident in her own shot and steadily moving into the number-one option role for the Hokies, given her natural offensive feel for the game.
Ahead of her senior campaign, she made the move to the highly touted Kentucky program, following her Virginia Tech head coach Kenny Brooks over to the Wildcats. The Aussie could have put her name into the WNBA Draft pool in 2024, but instead opted to go around once more, this time in a different environment, and the pair have turned the team into a powerhouse of the SEC.
Amoore led the Hokies to the final four for the first time in quite a while, and now is hoping of repeating that feat with the Wildcats, and Kentucky is shaping as one of the most dangerous sides heading into the National Tournament, largely behind the play of their star point guard.
In her senior season, the Aussie is averaging 19.1 points and 6.9 assists per game, and is regarded as one of the top point guards in the country. She seemingly always makes something happen with ball in hand, and is the catalyst for the Wildcats’ winning ways this season.
A career-high 43 points on 15/22 shooting from the field alongside eight assists in the win over the Oklahoma Sooners showcased her ceiling and just how much she has developed as a scorer. Now, Amoore is capable of posting 30-plus points on any given night, and has been a pillar of consistency for her new team.
With the National Tournament looming, Amoore will again be one of the key players throughout March Madness as this Kentucky group looks to journey into uncharted waters. However, if she can continue to produce with ball in hand and maintain her confidence, the Aussie could storm further up draft rankings and be closer to the top-five in a month’s time.
