Time to play catch up as WNBL gets season back on track

After a few weeks of Covid induced chaos, it is finally time to play catch up in the WNBL. Beginning tonight, there will be wall to wall WNBL action for fans to enjoy, with eight games between tonight and Sunday.

Perth Lynx vs UC Capitals
January 19 at 7:30pm
Ballarat Sports Events Centre

These two sides only met five days ago, and it was the Lynx who got the win 88 to 69.

In the four most recent meetings previous to that match, Canberra has gotten the chocolates on every single occasion, so Perth has some serious history against it this weekend.

For the Capitals, that was the last match they played, while the Lynx had a game against the Melbourne Boomers since then, which they lost.

Sydney Uni Flames vs Adelaide Lightning
January 20 at 6:30pm
Brydens Stadium

The last time these two sides played was December 2020.

In that match it was the Flames who got the win, defeating the Lightning 86 to 60. In the four matches prior to that one though, it is an even split with two wins apiece.

Both sides are coming off quite a break. The Lightning have not played since their win against Perth, while Sydney has not played since its loss to Melbourne just before Christmas.

Bendigo Spirit vs Townsville Fire
January 21 at 5pm
Bendigo Stadium

These two sides have not played each other yet this season, but the last time they played each other it was a win to the Fire, 99 to 51.

Neither of these two teams have played this calendar year either, and both sides are coming off last start losses to the Capitals.  

UC Capitals vs Southside Flyers
January 21 at 7:30pm

This will be Canberra’s second match of the round, while it will be the first for the Flyers.

The Flyers will certainly be looking to turn their season around a bit after having lost four of their last five matches.

Last time these two sides met was December 2020, and it was the Flyers that got the win that particular day, 101 to 82.

Melbourne Boomers vs Townsville Fire
January 22 at 5pm
Melbourne Sports Centres – Parkville

This one will be Townsville’s second match of the weekend, while it will be Melbourne’s first.

Last time these two sides faced off was in December 2020, and it was the Fire who got a narrow three point win over the Boomers that particular day.

UC Capitals vs Bendigo Spirit
January 23 at 1pm
National Convention Centre Canberra

This match sees the end of Canberra’s mammoth three games in five days effort, while for the Spirit it will only be their second match of the round.

Last time these two sides met was only a few weeks ago, and on that particular occasion, it was Canberra who got the win 100 to 88.

Bendigo have not beaten the Capitals since January 2020, so will certainly be looking to end that winless run against Canberra this weekend.

Sydney Uni Flames vs Perth Lynx
January 23 at 3:30pm
Qudos Bank Arena

Both these sides have a pretty light load in comparison to others this round, with this match being only the second one for either side this round.

Last time these two played each other was in late 2020, and on that occasion it was Sydney Uni who got the win 71 – 68.

Adelaide Lightning vs Southside Flyers
January 23 at 5:30pm
The Lights Community and Sports Centre

The last match of the round sees the Lightning take on the reigning champions.

Last time these two battled it out was all the way back in December 2020, and it was the Flyers who were victorious 111 to 72.
