A CAREER-HIGH 50 points from Drew Timme led the Long Island Nets to a seven-point win in overtime in their high-scoring clash against the Motor City Cruise in the G-League over the weekend.
The Nets travelled to Detroit to take on the Cruise at Wayne State Fieldhouse, in a clash that had plenty of weight for both sides. The two teams are both in contention for a playoff spot in the East, but sit outside the top six as it stands. A win here would shorten the gap to that last postseason spot and could be crucial in determining the standings.
The Cruise looked to have the game in the bag heading into the fourth term, building a steady lead over the course of the match and holding a 12-point buffer heading into the final frame of regulation. However, Long Island came home strong, posting 48 points in the final term and forcing overtime after a Reece Beekman triple tied the match with two seconds to play. In the extra period, the Nets went on a 7-0 run to hit the target score of 152 and claim one of their best wins of the season.
The performance of Timme was crucial for the Nets, with the big man posting a career-best night and getting his side over the line in a vital win.

Drew Timme – 50 points, nine rebounds, two assists
The former Gonzaga Bulldog set new heights for his career over the weekend, completely dominating the Cruise and taking over on the offensive end in a performance that would have certainly caught the eye of NBA scouts.
The big man got off to a hot start, scoring 12 points in the first term and helping his side jump out to an early lead. Although Timme was quieter in the second period, the 24-year-old lifted in the third term with another 11 points, finding his groove with inside scoring and working well in the pick and roll.
Although he had already put together a strong offensive outing, it was Timme’s fourth quarter that proved decisive in forcing overtime. The big man shouldered the offensive responsibility and looked fearless in his attack on the basket. As the Nets began to get some momentum on the back of his hard work, the game turned, and Long Island started to take control and consistently score, a feat that had evaded them in the third period.
Timme had 15 points in the fourth quarter alone, and found Beekman with a nice dish out pass for the game-tying triple, making the most of the defensive attention he was receiving. The center gave his side the lead with a crafty reverse layup in overtime, before sealing the game and reaching the 50-mark with a triple that was very popular amongst his teammates given it gave the Nets the win.
He finished the game with 50 points and nine boards on a remarkably efficient shooting clip, nailing 21 of his 26 attempts from the field, including going 3/5 from behind the arc. He has put his name on the map as a serious offensive threat, and will have undoubtedly caught the attention of a few NBA sides with this performance.
