Travers terrific with fourth triple-double

THE CLEVELAND Charge may not be playoff bound in the G League for the 2024/25 season, but they still finished their season strongly with a massive 35-point thumping of the Long Island Nets in their final game of the fixture.
Although Nae’Quan Tomlin dominated headlines with a career-night of 41 points and 14 rebounds, Aussie Luke Travers was extremely impressive as well. A consistent performer at G League level, Travers finished the season with his fourth triple-double of the 2024/25 fixture, and has again shown he may have a bright future with the team’s NBA affiliate in the Cleveland Cavaliers.
After foregoing college basketball and instead playing a season on home shores in the NBL, he joined the Cavaliers late in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft. He has played occasional games at the top level, but spent majority of his time in the G League, developing his craft with players around the same mark.
Coming into the clash against the Nets, the Charge were looking to finish the season with an upset over the Nets, who were also set to miss out on the postseason action, but had enjoyed a better season than Cleveland with two more wins.
The Aussie was instrumental getting the Charge on top against the Nets, posting a satisfying statline of 11 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists to finish off the season in emphatic fashion, and hopefully justify his spot on Cleveland’s list moving forward.
It was a slow start to the match for Travers on the scoring front, who missed his first four attempts from the field and turned the ball over by biting off a bit more than he could chew with a pass that ended up flying out of bounds. However, he got on the board with a well timed cut to the basket where he threw down the two handed slam to stretch Cleveland’s lead out to 21.
Although the shots continued to miss unfortunately, Travers’ ability to influence the match with his passing was instrumental in his side jumping out to a big buffer on the scoreboard. He was able to set up teammates with well-timed passes that included lobs and clever bounce passes to ensure others had the best look at scoring.
He had five dimes in the first quarter alone, and was masterful in orchestrating consistent scores for the Charge to start the match. Travers getting his teammates into scoring positions was key in his side building a match-winning lead in the first term.
Although the Nets managed to stop the bleeding as the game rolled on, it was too little, too late, with the Charge already out to too big of a lead, and it was Travers who helped spark the hot start with some masterful passing.
Next year will be his fourth season on an NBA roster, and he has progressed heavily since joining the Cavaliers. If he can continue to produce performances of this calibre where he impacts in multiple facets of the game, more minutes should come at NBA level.
