Triantis takes terrific next step for Jacks

THE 2022/23 college basketball season saw a number of Aussies shine in the system, with some strong individual campaigns from some of the country’s young guns.

That trend extended to Loukas Triantis, who enjoyed an eye-catching season as a member of the Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) Jacks. After an impressive campaign with the team last year, Triantis took his game to another level this season, boosting his numbers in almost every category in what was a strong step forward.

Triantis’ 2021/22 campaign was a strong one, emerging as one of the team’s key players last year, as evidenced by his 28 minutes of court time per game. As a result, he was given even more opportunity the following year, and the Sydney native took the chance with both hands.

During the 2022/23 season, he was able to continue to showcase the value he brings to the team, with an all-around arsenal of weapons. Despite standing six-foot-two against some taller opponents, Triantis can contribute in the paint in more ways than one.

As a scorer, he bumped up his points average to 11.5 per game on 47 per cent shooting from the field. With a strong balance of inside and outside scoring ability, Triantis was able to hit double-figures in this column on 15 occasions, highlighted by a four-game stretch in February where he registered 13 points or more in each of those games.

Triantis was also an impressive rebounder despite not being the tallest player on the court, pulling down 4.6 per game thanks to some timely body work when the ball is in the air. His ability to read a miss from either his teammates or the opposition helped him get into the right position under the hoop on both ends of the court.

He was also a handy playmaker, showing the smarts to make the extra pass or dish-out on his drives into the paint. Triantis averaged 4.1 assists per game in a big step forward from last season, and was further evidence of the improvement seen from the guard.

It is now as clear as ever that the future is extremely bright for Triantis, who has the capability to get involved in a number of ways for the guard. He delivered a consistent campaign as a member of the DCB Jacks, and was one of the team’s best players over the course of the entire fixture.
