Tudor’s towering performance sparks Magic

THE Mandurah Magic got back on the winners’ list in the NBL1 West Women’s on the weekend, rallying behind an emphatic showing from Katharine Tudor.

The Magic took on the Eastern Suns in the final game of Round 7, eager to break their losing streak. Having started the season on fire with three wins in a row, they lost two on the trot and were on the brink of falling out of the top part of the ladder.

They faced off against the Suns at Ray Owen Sports Centre on Saturday night, eager to down an Eastern side that had shown glimpses of promise in its three wins to start the year. However, Mandruah was powerful in the opening term, outscoring the opposition 31-12 in that time. The Magic then controlled the remainder of the match, cruising home to a 98-58 win.

Tudor was the star of the show for the victors, producing a big statline that was reflective of her impact over the course of the match.

Katharine Tudor – 28 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals

Tudor was an immense presence for the Magic in their big win, ensuring her fingerprints were all over the result of the match.

She poured in a game-high 28 points, and although teammate Carly Boag took the most shots from the field, Tudor made the most of her opportunities and hurt the opposition.

Her efficiency was her biggest weapon on the offensive end, making 10 shots on just 15 attempts from the field, showcasing plenty of accuracy at all three levels of scoring.

Tudor was near-perfect from two-point territory, draining six of her seven attempts from inside the arc. She could drive inside and attack the opposition’s interior defence, while also trailing off and nailing the occasional mid-range.

From behind the arc, Tudor was also very solid on her way to four makes on eight attempts. She took full advantage of whenever the opposition sagged off around the perimeter, and punished them accordingly.

Tudor was also a machine on the glass, pulling down an impressive 10 rebounds over the course of the match. Four of those came on the offensive end, and she showed no hesitation in putting the ball back up into the hoop immediately after. She tormented the Eastern bigs with her ability to get first touch on the ball.

Tudor was the best player on the court in a big win for Mandurah, and expect the team to get her involved in the offence much more in the coming weeks given her success against the Suns.
