ALTHOUGH much of the attention has been focussed on the NBL over recent weeks, the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) is just weeks away from commencing its upcoming season.
The season begins on November 1, with another few months of the best Women’s basketball on our shores set to entertain once again.
Last season saw plenty of highlights, some big individual performances and a thrilling finals series. The Townsville Fire capped off a dominant period to close out the season, remaining unbeaten for a remarkable stretch of time to claim the ultimate prize.
The Fire will now be the hunted as the remaining seven teams look to do the same and finish the upcoming season holding the much-desired trophy. However, Townsville appears ready for the challenge, making some eye-catching moves over the off-season.
With star players returning from stints in the WNBA in the United States, preparations for the 2023/24 season are as exciting as ever, especially considering there are just 15 days until the season opener between the Adelaide Lightning and the Melbourne Boomers.
With that in mind, Rookie Me Central will begin a Team Introduction series, commencing with the Lightning tomorrow in the lead up to the season.
In this series, each team will be placed under the microscope, taking a look at the roster and some key figures within each side.
Also discussed will be a pass mark or expected finish for each club, and with a reasonably even playing field as it stands, there will be plenty to dissect on this front.
Stay tuned to Rookie Me Central‘s basketball site for each article as it drops, and plenty of coverage of the upcoming WNBL season.
