After an entertaining start to the year, the competition is set to host Round 9 of proceedings over the next few days, with a number of exciting clashes on the cards. However, none are bigger than the top two sides going head-to-head at Eagle Stadium on Saturday night. The Boomers have not put a foot wrong in the first eight games, but Wyndham is hot on their tail, just a couple of wins behind. It is set to make an enthralling contest, and when both sides are at their best, plenty of scores come shortly after, so it could be a high-scoring affair. Either way, the game is sure to entertain and have a big impact on the standings and the shape of the competition moving forward.

Wyndham vs Bulleen Boomers
Saturday, May 21 @8:30pm
Eagle Stadium

Wyndham has not done much wrong to start the year, announcing itself as one of the contenders. After nine games of action, the home side holds a record of seven wins and two losses, which is good enough to see them claim second spot in the standings, two wins ahead of the next side down. They claimed a thrilling one-point win over another contender in McKinnon last weekend, but face the toughest assignment of season 2022 for any side in taking down a dominant Boomers side. Wyndham will need to bring its A-game, but if anyone can take down Bulleen, it will happen in Round 9. Tanielle Knight was terrific in last round’s win, pouring in 26 points, and will be amongst the action again here.

As mentioned above, the Boomers have been simply outstanding to start the season. The first eight rounds of 2022 has seen Bulleen produce nine wins and a zero in the losses column. That record is two triumphs better than any other side, and they sit quite comfortably at the head of the table. Round 9 will probably be their biggest chance of sustaining a loss, given Wyndham has been the best of the rest. However, the Boomers have found a winning style of basketball, and if Annabel Deerbon can back up her 27-point outing from last round, they will be tough to go past.

Across the courts

Four other games will take place over the span of Saturday and Sunday in Round 9 of the Big V Women’s championship, with plenty of ramifications on the cards.

Chelsea vs Sunbury, Saturday @5:30pm, Patterson River Stadium
Pakenham vs Southern Peninsula, Saturday @8pm, Cardinia Life
McKinnon vs Sunbury, Sunday @12pm, GESAC
Pakenham vs Hume, Sunday @2pm, Cardinia Life

THE Big V Women’s Basketball championship is set for a big weekend, with the Bulleen Boomers taking on Wyndham in a top-two clash.
