THE WOMEN’S National Basketball League (WNBL) is back for another fixture, as the finest players from around the country hit the court this week to kick-off the 2022\/23 fixture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Starting on Wednesday night, the eight teams will lock horns to fight for the ultimate glory in what is shaping up to be a cracking season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last year’s premiers in the Melbourne Boomers<\/a> will be looking to make it two in a row, but will be kicking things off with a big game against the Perth Lynx<\/a> on Wednesday night. Both rosters are stacked with the likes of Tiffany Mitchell<\/a> and Cayla George<\/a> will be suiting up for the Boomers, while Alex Sharp<\/a> and Lauren Scherf<\/a> will be looking to take their respective games to the next level with Perth going with no imports this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Adelaide Lightning<\/a> will be hurting after the loss of Alanna Smith<\/a>, who was excellent in tandem with Stephanie Talbot<\/a> as the duo managed to get their side into the finals. Expect the likes of Marena Whittle<\/a> to step up after impressing with the Ringwood Hawks in the NBL1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Bendigo Spirit<\/a>, Southside Flyers<\/a>, Sydney Uni Flames<\/a> and Townsville Fire<\/a> all made intriguing moves in the offseason to try and get back into finals contention after missing out last season. It may prove an extremely hard season to predict given the balance of talent across the league, and could be one of the most exciting fixtures in recent memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Melbourne in particular will be one side to watch, after last season\u2019s fairytale under head coach Guy Molloy<\/em><\/strong>, with the club finishing with a record of 12-5 and storming through to the title. Molloy has since departed the club with Chris Lucas<\/em><\/strong> replacing him at the helm, and he was not the only exciting inclusion. The club added WNBA rookie Olivia Nelson-Ododa<\/strong>, who has proven an impressive interior defender during her time with the L.A. Sparks, and should slot nicely into the starting center role after the departure of Eziyoda Magbegor<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There should be no shortage of excitement across the 2022\/23 season, with plenty of storylines to keep an eye on in the coming months. The fixture promises to be one of the closest of the last decade, and with a strong mix of local talent and imported players, there will be a lot to like about the WNBL season when it kicks off at Bendat Basketball Centre on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n
