{"id":33905,"date":"2023-02-28T15:05:38","date_gmt":"2023-02-28T05:05:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/central.rookieme.com\/basketball\/?p=33905"},"modified":"2023-02-28T15:05:39","modified_gmt":"2023-02-28T05:05:39","slug":"foxwell-a-wildcat-for-upcoming-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/central.rookieme.com\/basketball\/foxwell-a-wildcat-for-upcoming-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Foxwell a Wildcat for upcoming season"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>SOUTH East Melbourne Phoenix young gun <a data-type=\"player\" data-id=\"1920\" class=\"_dc_spo\" href=\"\/basketball\/player\/owen-foxwell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Owen Foxwell<\/a> is now a Wildcat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though the Victorian is best known for his work with the Phoenix where he was one of the most promising teenagers coming through the ranks, Foxwell has re-signed with Eltham Wildcats for the upcoming National Basketball League (NBL)1 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The reigning NBL1 South Youth Player o the Year was a key talent in the top Australian basketball league, becoming a natural highlight reel despite his side not able to get through the Play-In tournament. He averaged 3.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists with the Phoenix in the recent NBL season, but put up 13 points and two rebounds against Sydney Kings in his penultimate match of the year on January 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Growing up in Bulleen, the former Boomers player has his sights set on making the elite level. As a 18-year-old in last year&#8217;s NBL1 South competition, Foxwell put up 14.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists which catapulted him into form for the NBL season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Playing 21 games for the Wildcats and averaging just over 26 minutes per match, Foxwell shot at 37.4 per cent from the field and also picked up an impressive 2.6 steals compared to only 1.9 turnovers. Among his best performances were a double-double against North West Tasmania Thunder where Foxwell amassed a whopping 38 points and 10 rebounds, but also tallied up six assists and six steals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A week earlier, the young star recorded 33 points, five rebounds and two assists against Mount Gambier Pioneers.
