JUST when it seemed that the Melbourne United<\/a> had finalised the strongest list ahead of the upcoming NBL season, they added even more high-quality talent to the roster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After soaring back into contention with some big free agency signings based around local talent, United have now snagged a championship-winning import who has been plying his trade in South Australia so far in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Six-year NBA veteran Ian Clark<\/a> has agreed to a one-year deal with Melbourne, further pushing the team towards the upcoming championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clark initially joined the Sydney Kings<\/a> a couple of years ago, and played a crucial role in the club’s title-winning run in the 2021\/22 season. His veteran presence and scoring ability was an important factor for the Kings, but left the team following that campaign. During the team’s postseason campaign, he shot 52 per cent from deep in remarkable fashion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He rejoined the NBL last season, heading to the Adelaide 36ers<\/a> after the team lost its backcourt import in Craig Randall II<\/a> midseason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his time with the 36ers, Clark averaged 12.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists, with solid shooting numbers of 47.3 per cent from the field and 35.3 per cent from three-point land, which is one of his biggest strengths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dean Vickerman <\/em><\/strong>had been searching for some perimeter presence around his current roster, and Clark certainly adds that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He will join Matthew Dellavedova<\/a>, Jo Lual Acuil<\/a> and Luke Travers<\/a> as the team’s new recruits, and slot in nicely around the perimeter next to established star Chris Goulding<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last season, United finished their campaign prematurely, missing the postseason thanks to a record of 15 wins and 13 losses, good enough for seventh place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the addition of Clark further pushes United into the championship conversation this season, building the most stacked group of players in the NBL. Whether the players gel is yet to be seen, but on talent alone, Melbourne is the team to beat during the 2023\/24 campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In other free agency news, Gary Browne<\/a> will remain with the SEM Phoenix<\/a> after a solid debut season in the NBL that was interrupted due to injury at times. Also, the Perth Wildcats<\/a> have acquired the services of former Georgia Tech forward Jordan Usher <\/strong>as their second import. He is a highly skilled defender, talented athlete and can score the ball, having shown that during his time with the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Summer League recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
