IN a must win game for both sides on the eve of the Women\u2019s National Basketball League (WNBL) finals series, the Perth Lynx<\/a> made a second half surge to defeat the Bendigo Spirit<\/a> by 19 points at Red Energy Arena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For two teams that have similarities in their liking for running in transition and often have big scoring runs as a result, this game was crucial in deciding who would maintain their momentum and book a spot in the postseason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Spirit produced a magnificent performance in the first quarter with a 13-2 start, setting the tempo on their terms and consistently knocking down shots from both outside the perimeter and inside the paint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the second period, the Lynx were able to push the tempo and get the pace on their terms, going on a 9-4 scoring run. Both teams once again had scoring momentum runs throughout the quarter. Although the Lynx won the second quarter, 28-22, the Spirit maintained a five point lead at half-time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aari McDonald<\/a>, Miela Goodchild<\/a> and Amy Atwell<\/a> combined for 28 points in the first half, helping the Lynx get back into the game by getting stops at critical stages, driving to the basket and nailing some shots from three point range to reduce the deficit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building from an important second term, the Lynx produced a massive third quarter, winning the period 24-13 on the back of a 9-2 scoring run to hit the lead and take a six-point buffer into the final break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lynx finished the game strongly, continuing to have their way with a fatigued Bendigo side, winning the last quarter, 25-12, which resulted in 93-74 victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McDonald played a crucial role in the Lynx’s comeback, finishing as her side’s top scorer with 26 points, four rebounds and four assists. Atwell brought the energy from the second quarter onwards, proving a valuable scorer with 23 points, six rebounds and one assist. Goodchild also played a crucial role, opening up her teammates and playing a viral role, finishing with 14 points and one rebound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
