NUNAWADING Spectres revival in the Melbourne United Victorian Junior Basketball League (MUVJBL) Under 18 Girls championship division continued in Round 6, with the sixth placed side knocking off Broadmeadows Broncos to level their win-loss record this season at 3-3. The Spectres have won three games on the trot since losing their first three, and last Friday accounted for the Broncos by six points. Despite falling four points down at quarter time, the Spectres got on top after that, winning the remaining three quarters to run out 64-58 victors. Tayha Watkins<\/strong> scored 13 points for the winners, while Maddison Zugna<\/strong> (12), Tarni Brown<\/strong> (12) and Lucy Oakford<\/strong> (11) all scored double-figures. For the Broncos, Chrisy Triantafyallopoulos<\/strong> scored 13 points in defeat, while Oriana Siamoa<\/strong> sank 11.<\/p>\n

Hawthorn Magic bounced back from a draw with Melbourne Tigers last week to record an eight-point win over Keilor Thunder. The Magic scored 18 points to 12 in the first term before the Thunder managed to work their way back into the game, cutting the final term deficit to four. The Magic finished the stronger of the sides, adding 16 goals to 12 in the final quarter to record a 50-42 win. Competition leading scorer, Ryleh Killian<\/strong> continued her form for the Magic with 19 points, while Bridget Patel<\/strong> finished with 18. For Keilor, Ruby Sweeney-Spitzeck<\/strong> was the only double-figure scorer with 13 for the game.<\/p>\n

In other Watson Pool results, Bendigo Braves defeated Geelong Supercats, 60-46 courtesy of a 32-18 second half after the sides were level at the main break. Sahara Rodda<\/strong> and Tess Barnes<\/strong> both scored 11 points for the winners, while Carly Remos<\/strong> (16) and Alisha Knights<\/strong> (13) were the dominant shooters for Geelong. Melbourne Tigers got the points against Warrandyte Venom, 55-42. Tylah Hooper<\/strong> sank 20 points in the win, while no Venom player reached double figures. In the final game, the scores from Altona Gators and Dandenong Rangers 2 is yet to be confirmed.<\/p>\n

Looking across to the Ashe Pool, Dandenong Rangers grabbed a crucial win over Kilsyth Cobras to move into clear third spot on the table. The Rangers had to fight back from an eight-point half-time deficit to storm to a nine-point win over the Cobras, scoring 35 points to 18 in the second half. Emily Sewell<\/strong> scored 15 points for the Rangers, while Leia Hanafin<\/strong> finished with 10. For the Cobras, Nikita Young<\/strong> sank 13 points, as Tia Wotherspoon<\/strong> had 11. Not far behind the Rangers in fourth is Diamond Valley Eagles who defeated Southern Peninsula Sharks, 75-60. Keeley Evans<\/strong> was unstoppable with 24 points, while Georgia Kitchell<\/strong> (11) and Jade Dunne<\/strong> (10) also contributed in the Eagles’ win. For the Sharks, Charli Dobson<\/strong> sank 19 points, while Gemma Simon<\/strong> (12) and Chloe Zielinski<\/strong> (11) also stood up in defeat.<\/p>\n

At opposite ends of the ladder, Bulleen Boomers had an easy win over McKinnon Cougars, running away 76-29 winners, Bulleen’s fifth consecutive victory. Casey Valenti-Paea<\/strong> scored 19 points in the win, but she was far from alone with Sascha Korakis<\/strong> (13) and Antoniette Emma-Nnopu<\/strong> (12) also busy. Lily Tait<\/strong> (11 points) was the main scorer for the Cougars. Also at opposite ends of the table, but in a much closer game, Knox Raiders got past Pakenham Warriors, 67-55. Rhiannon Ockwell<\/strong> scored 15 points for the Raiders, while Zoe Jenkins <\/strong>managed 14. For the Warriors, Alanha Arnason<\/strong> was on song, shooting 15 points. In the final game of the pool, Nunawading Spectres knocked off Frankston Blues with a commanding 59-41 win. Nunawading shared the points around in the 18-point win as Stephanie Wales<\/strong> finished with 11 to be her team’s top scorer, while for the Blues, Kassie Boorer<\/strong> was impressive with 17.<\/p>\n
