{"id":651,"date":"2018-10-24T15:04:52","date_gmt":"2018-10-24T05:04:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/afl.draftcentral.localhost\/basketball\/?p=651"},"modified":"2018-10-24T15:04:52","modified_gmt":"2018-10-24T05:04:52","slug":"young-gun-spotlight-wnbl-round-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/central.rookieme.com\/basketball\/young-gun-spotlight-wnbl-round-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Young gun spotlight: WNBL &#8211; Round 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">THE University of Canberra Capitals have started their season with a bang, and two of their young guns feature in this week\u2019s young gun spotlight. <\/span><b>Lauren Sherf <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>Kia Nurse <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are joined by Adelaide\u2019s <\/span><b>Penina Davidson, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Melbourne\u2019s <\/span><b>Ezi Magbegor <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and Townsville\u2019s <\/span><b>Zitina Aokuso, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who also had impressive performances for their teams.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>University of Canberra Capitals &#8211; #7 Lauren Scherf<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scherf was the second highest points scorer for the Capitals against the Boomers. She scored 14 points, and also racked up six rebounds and two assists. She also got plenty of game time, playing 27 minutes in her side\u2019s win. She had less minutes against Adelaide Lightning with 22, but still made an impact. Scherf recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Adelaide Lightning &#8211; #12 Nia Coffey <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coffey once again dominated on the boards in Round 2. She took 12 rebounds to go with her nine points against the Fire on Friday night. She then backed this up in remarkable fashion against the Capitals, and was one of the reasons why Adelaide stayed in the hunt during the game. Coffey scored 16 points, two points off the Lightning\u2019s highest points scorer, and also pulled down six rebounds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>University of Canberra Capitals &#8211; #11 Kia Nurse <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kia Nurse had a solid all-round game against the Boomers to kick off Round 2 for the Capitals. She scored 12 points, pulled down five rebounds and gathered two assists in 32 minutes of game time. Nurse backed this up with a double-double against Adelaide, playing a major part in the Capitals\u2019 win. She scored 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to go along with her two assists. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Melbourne Boomers &#8211; #13 Ezi Magbegor <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Magbegor had a fantastic game against the Capitals, despite her side not getting the win. She was the Boomers\u2019 leading points scorer, with 19. She also pulled down five rebounds, which was one off <\/span><b>Cayla George<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s team-high six boards. Against the Sydney Uni Flames, Magbegor was prominent again in her side\u2019s first win of the season. She scored 10 points and pulled down four rebounds. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Townsville Fire &#8211; #15 Zitina Aokuso <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aokuso backed up her convincing Round 1 performance on Friday night. She scored 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the Fire\u2019s 10-point win. Aokuso struggled against Perth though, scoring three points and gathering two rebounds.
