Wyndham looking to down Broncos to stay on top

IN the first nine rounds of the Big V Men’s Championship for season 2022, Wyndham has been simply outstanding. It has won 10 of its first 11 clashes and looks like one of the better sides for the season moving forward. However, it is not alone at the top of the table, with Sunbury right there with Wyndham, so there is still a bit of pressure to maintain their form. In their way for Round 10 are the Hume Broncos, who are going alright themselves and sitting in fourth spot. While the Broncos may have a tough task on their hands, they have shown throughout their first 10 games that when firing, they can take down anyone in the competition, it is just a matter of if they can show up when the two sides clash on Saturday night at Eagle Stadium. It is probably the biggest match on the cards for the round and will have a massive impact on the standings moving forward.

As discussed earlier, Wyndham has been one of if not the best side to start the year, and its record of 10-1 reflects that. The home side will be heavily favoured in Saturday night’s game, but will also enter with a level of caution as Wyndham looks to finish the round at the head of the table still. In its wins, Wyndham has been quite impressive, but was handed its first loss of the season last weekend, by the direct competition in Sunbury, which was a bit of a wake up. Looking to bounce back on Saturday night, expect them to come out hungry and firing against an opponent they will see as beatable. Despite the loss, Manel Ayol was outstanding last round, finishing with a team-high 28 points, and will be keen on continuing that momentum into Round 10.

The Broncos have had an indifferent start to the year, winning five of their first 10 games. They currently sit in fourth spot based on percentage, but that standing could change on any given week, so they will need to keep winning if they are to remain in the top four. It does not help that they must go through the ladder-leaders in Round 10, but there is no diamonds without pressure, so it could end up being one of the most impressive wins of their season if they can pull it off. However, they will need to take a leaf out of Sunbury’s book last round, where they took down Wyndham, and took away its ability to score. Chris Elder has been terrific on the offensive end all year, and will likely have the ball in his hands a fair bit on Saturday night.
