Womens 2&3s wrap: Round 6
LAST weekend saw a double header of T20 matches for everyone across both the second and third eleven competitions. In part two of this wrap up, we take a look at how everyone went in their second match of the double header, and then look ahead to next weekend’s action
Box Hill
2nd XI
When a team loses its first wicket at 1/9 it’s a sign of what is to come for the rest of the innings. Batting first against Prahran, that is exactly what happened to the Mustangs as they went on to only make 4/121 off their 20 overs. Sunny Plant was the pick of the batters for the Mustangs with 47 not out.
In reply though, a stellar bowling performance saw their total ultimately be defendable. They bowled out Prahran for only 88 to take the win. Lani Dejong and Vaishnavi Munukutla were the stars with the ball, picking up three wickets apiece.
3rd XI
Bowling first against Geelong, Box Hill ensured Geelong limped their way to 5/109 off their 20 overs.
As the Mustangs tried to chase down the target, a stellar bowling performance saw Geelong ultimately win the game after they restricted Box Hill to 5/74 off their 20 overs. Grace Newey was the leading wicket taker for the Mustangs with two.
Carlton
2nd XI
Carlton bowled first against EMP, and the Bombers were restricted 3/110 in their 20 overs. In reply, Carlton made the target with an over to spare. Grace Moyle top scored for Carlton with 41.
3rd XI
In a low scoring affair, Carlton was restricted to only 3/71 off their 20 overs. In the chase it only took the Bombers 12 overs to reach the target. Captain Chand Negi took both of Carlton’s wickets.
Dandenong
2nd XI
Dandenong batted first against Plenty Valley, and made 191 off their 20 overs. Erin Maxwell top scored with 73, while Jessica Caron made 56. In reply, Plenty Valley’s batting was no match for the Panther’s bowling, and the Bats only made 6/85 off their 20 overs. Jessica Sanders took three wickets for the Panthers in the win, while Jemma Reynolds nabbed two.
3rd XI
Dandenong bowled first against Melbourne, and the Dees made 2/157 off their 20 overs. In reply, Dandenong just ran out of time and could only manage 128 off their 20 overs. Montana Phillips top scored for Dandenong with 47.
Essendon Maribyrnong Park
2nd XI
Batting first, EMP made 3/110 in their 20 overs against Carlton. Mia Gordon was the standout batter for the Bombers, making 51. In reply, Carlton made the target with an over to spare. Tomeka Fowlie managed to pick up two wickets for the Bombers.
3rd XI
In a low scoring affair, a tight bowling display from EMP saw Carlton restricted to only 3/71 off their 20 overs. Ruby Gibson was the main wicket taker for the Bombers with two wickets. In the chase it only took the Bombers 12 overs to reach the target.
Geelong
2nd XI
Geelong batted first against Ringwood, and lost too many wickets in the middle part of their innings on the way to only scoring 86 off their 20 overs. In the end 86 was never going to be enough as Ringwood reached the target with one and a half overs to spare. Chantal Mason was the pick of Geelong’s bowlers with the very even figures of 2/2 off her two overs.
3rd XI
Batting first against Box Hill, Geelong limped their way to 5/109 off their 20 overs. In defence of that total however, a stellar bowling performance saw Geelong ultimately win the game after they restricted Box Hill to 5/74 off their 20 overs. Grace Schrama and Summer Don were the leading wicket takers for the Cats with two apiece
Melbourne
2nd XI
Melbourne’s 2nd XI had the bye in game two last Sunday
3rd XI
Batting first against Dandenong, the Dees made 2/157 off their 20 overs. Amelie O’Meara top scored with 64, while Clementine Ryan-Fuller made 52. In reply, a good bowling display from Melbourne meant that Dandenong just ran out of time and could only manage 128 off their 20 overs.
Plenty Valley
2nd XI
Dandenong batted first against Plenty Valley and made 191 off their 20 overs. Lana Manning was the pick of Plenty Valley’s bowlers with two wickets. In reply, Plenty Valley’s batting can only be described as a disaster, and the Bats only made 6/85 off their 20 overs.
3rd XI
Plenty Valley’s 3rd XI had the bye in game two last Sunday.
Prahran
2nd XI
After restricting Box Hill to only 121 off their 20 overs, Prahran must have thought they were in serious contention to win the match.Not for long. a stellar bowling performance saw the total ultimately be a bridge too far. Prahran were bowled out for only 88. Samantha Deeble top scored with 32, while there was an even spread of wicket takers for the True Blues.
3rd XI
Bowling first against Ringwood, Prahran ensured the Rams limped their way to 6/121 off their 20 overs. In reply, the True Blues just lost too many wickets too quickly, and ultimately finished at 7/88 off their 20 overs. Zoe Quinsey-Munro was an absolute star with the ball for the True Blues, taking four of her team’s six wickets.
Ringwood
2nd XI
Ringwood bowled first, and restricted Geelong to just 86 off their 20 overs. A score that low was always going to make things easier for the Rams as they reached the target with an over and a half to spare. Tegan Rule was once again an absolute star with the ball, taking thee wickets this time. Debra Loughnan took two wickets.
3rd XI
Ringwood batted first against Prahran, and after a good start limped their way to 6/121 off their 20 overs. In reply, despite the high extras count Ringwood were still able to get the job done, restricting the True Blues to just 7/88 off their 20 overs. Captain Kelly Tarr was once again very reliable with the bat and made 40, while Kate Burns made 39. Burns was also one of the Rams’ top wicket takers alongside Mikayla Lewis-Simmonds, with both players taking two.
