2021/22 Women’s 1sts Mid Season Review – Plenty Valley

IT is halfway through the Women’s Premier 1sts competition, so over the next week we are taking a look at where all the teams are sitting as we head into the back half of the season. Today’s focus is Plenty Valley Bats, who have had a disastrous start to the season.

The season thus far

Plenty Valley is currently having a season the Bats would rather forget. The abandoned match on the opening weekend was all the points the Bats have earned so far this season. They have not won a game yet so far this season.

So far this season they have lost to Dandenong, Ringwood, Prahran, Box Hill and Carlton, and all the losses have been of a bonus point proportion.

Who’s played well?

Despite the heavy losses, Plenty Valley players have still been making runs and taking wickets.

On the batting side of things, it is Jasmine Nevins who tops the tally. In five matches so far this season, she has hit 193 runs at an average of 38.6 and a strike rate of 76. Her high score so far this season was 54.

Next up on the list is Aanliya Cheeran. She has hit 82 runs so far this season at an average of 16.4 and a strike rate of 49.4. Rounding out the top five highest scoring batters for Plenty Valley so far this season is Tayla Vlaeminck, Simran Gandhi and Navleen Sandhu.

Looking at the bowlers side of the equation, it is Cheeran who tops the table. She has taken 4/128 off 35 overs so far this season. These figures includes three maidens. Her best figures are 2/16 and she has an average of 32 and an economy rate of 3.66.

Jane Riley has also taken four wickets but has been slightly less economical then Cheeran. She’s taken 4/145 off 31 overs so far this season, which includes three maidens. Her best figures were 2/32, and she has an average of 36.25 and an economy rate of 4.68.

Rounding out the top five wicket takers for the Bats so far this season is Ribhya Syan, Jasleen Kaur and Amelie Sibillin.

The rest of the season ahead

Well, the only way is up for the Bats but they are going to have to turn things around quickly. In the next month, they have Melbourne twice, Dandenong and EMP. Hopefully the Christmas and New Year break has been just what they needed, but only time will tell.
