2021/22 Women’s 1sts Mid Season Review – Prahran
IT is halfway through the Women’s Premier 1sts competition, so over the next week we are taking a look at where all the teams are sitting as we head into the back half of the season. Today’s focus is Prahran True Blues, who will certainly be looking to turn things around in the back half of the season.
The season thus far
Well to say things have not gone to plan for Prahran this season would be an understatement. At this point in the season, they only have one win on the board, and that was against fellow cellar dwellers Plenty Valley.
Who’s played well?
Despite the lack of wins on the board, there are still plenty of players making a decent amount of runs. From a batting perspective, it is Jennifer Taffs who tops the run table for the True Blues so far this season. In her five matches, she has scored 142 runs at an average of 28.4 and a strike rate of 62.3. Her high score was 72.
Second on the table is Annabel Sutherland. In between her WBBL and WNCL commitments has managed only the one game but piled on the runs, making 118. Rounding out the top five batters is Samara Dulvin, Merinda Hale and Rhys McKenna.
From a bowling perspective meanwhile, it is Sophie Day who takes the title of best Prahran bowler in the first half of the season. In between her Stars and Victorian duties, she has taken 5/97 off 22 overs so far this season for Prahran. This includes one maiden. Her best figures were 3/25 and she has an average of 19.4 and an economy rate of 4.41 so far this season.
Next on the list is Meika King. She has taken 4/110 in 13.1 overs so far this season. Her best figures are 2/6 and she has an average of 27.5 and an economy rate of 8.35. Rounding out the top five on the list of best bowlers so far this season is Hale, Ellen Williams and Diya Redhu.
The rest of the season ahead
At this point, the only way is up for Prahran. They are going to have to start getting some wins on the board if they want to be a contender this season.
In the next month, they have Essendon – Maribyrnong Park twice, and Dandenong and Box Hil once each. EMP and Box Hill have had inconsistent seasons, while Dandenong haven’t looked like the title winning side from last year. With this in mind, hopefully for True Blues fans the break was just what the side needed.
