2021/22 Women’s 1sts Mid Season Review – Ringwood
IT is halfway through the Women’s Premier 1sts competition, so over the next week we are taking a look at where all the teams are sitting as we head into the back half of the season. Today’s focus is Ringwood Rams, who currently sit third on the ladder.
The season thus far
It has been a little bit of an up and down season for the Rams. However, they are currently sitting in third, which is a great sign for them as they move into the back end of the season. After rain ensured no action on the opening weekend of the season, first up the Rams faced Melbourne. The Dees beat them on their way to becoming the dominant side of the season thus far.
They bounced back quickly though, defeating Plenty Valley and the previously undefeated Carlton in subsequent weeks. The following week they had a bonus point loss to Essendon Maribyrnong Park, before beating Prahran in the final game before the Christmas break.
Who’s played well?
Irishwoman Una Raymond-Hoey tops the batting charts for the Rams at the halfway point of the season. She has hit 223 runs so far this season, with an average of 55.75 and a strike rate of 73.8. This includes three half centuries and a high score of 76 not out.
Second on the list is Olivia Henry. The youngster has hit 186 runs across the five matches so far this season at an average of 62 and at a strike rate of 78.8. This includes two half centuries and a top score of 71 not out. Rounding out the top five of the batters chart is Bhavisha Devchand, Laura Shaw and Kristy Arulrajah.
From a bowling perspective, it is Hailey Ferris who has been the star bowler for the Rams. She has taken 12/89 thus far this season, from 28.2 overs. This included a haul of 6/30 and two maidens. She has an average of 7.42 and an economy rate of 3.14.
Second on the list is Devchand. The Rams skipper has once again been in fine form this season with the ball, taking 9/91 from 33.2 overs. This includes two maidens and a haul of 4/31. Her average at this point in the season is 10.11 and her economy rate is a nice and small 2.73. Rounding out the top five is Erin Carroll, Arulrajah and Tess Flintoff.
The rest of the season ahead
The Rams are currently sitting pretty in third place and looked primed for a tilt at a first 1st XI title, but will need to keep winning in order to cement their place in the finals.
Coming up in the next month, they play Dandenong twice, and both Melbourne and Box Hill once each. They are certainly capable of winning at least three of those games, but the Melbourne game will certainly be a challenge.
Regardless, win the remaining three games and things will be looking very pretty for the Rams heading into the pointy end of the season.
