Panthers squish Rams to remain one of three undefeated in Marg Jennings Cup

YESTERDAY the Under 18 Premier Girls competition resumed, with wins to Dandenong, Melbourne, Box Hill, Plenty Valley and Carlton.

Dandenong vs Ringwood

Dandenong batted first, and got off to a great start with a 116-opening run stance between Lillian Strong and Uvindee Wijesena. Their next wicket fell cheaply but Wijesena and Evie Stansby put on a 96 run partnership to guide the Panthers to 3/257 off their 50 overs.

Wijesena had an absolute field day with the bat, falling just too runs short of a century, while Stansby hit 72.

For the Rams, Hayley McLaughlin, Haylee Landi and Olivia Hucker each took one wicket.

Ringwood’s chase got off to a bit of a disaster when Landi was bowled to leave the Rams at 1/7.

This started a series of cheap wicket losses for the Rams, and in the end they only made 139 before being bowled out.

Lauren Barclay was top scorer for the Rams with 37.

For Dandenong, Acacia Sutton was the star with the ball, taking 5/44 off her 10 overs. Leiha May took two, while Thivya Mahendran, Abby Trezise and Strong each took one.

Melbourne vs Greenvale Kangaroos

Melbourne won the toss and batted first, and things got off to a disaster when the Demons lost their first wicket with only one run on the board. They lost a few more cheap wickets to find themselves at 5/46, but then steadied and started to build a bit of a tally. They kept losing wickets though and were bowled out for 168. Ruby Cullinan top scored with 51.

For Greenvale, Bella Woods was an absolute star with the ball, taking 5/28 off almost eight overs. Lily Pelosi and Kailey O’Donnell took two wickets, while Ninna Harbinson took the other wicket.

The Melbourne bowling attack was on fire in Greenvale’s batting innings. The Demons struck early and had Greenvale on the ropes at 4/8. The Kangaroos never recovered from their and were dismissed for 56 inside 29 overs. Extras outscored all the Greenvale batters, but Olivia Panaia was the top scoring actual batter with 11.

For the Dees, Hasrat Gill continued her good form and was the pick of the bowlers. She took 4/11 off 5.2 overs. Zoe Samuel took two, while Cullinan and Demi Zanoni took one each.

Box Hill vs Essendon Maribyrnong Park

The Mustangs took to the crease first, and made 7/174 off their 50 overs. They had a bit of a shaky start but recovered to post a competitive total. Extras outscored everyone, but Amelie Gladman top scored of the actual Box Hill batters with 34.

For the Bombers, Milly Illingworth and Grace Jones took two wickets each to both top the top bowlers tally.

In reply, a 77 from Tia Davidge was not enough as the Mustangs dismissed the Bombers for 158 in the final over.

For Box Hill, Ashling O’Farrell and Vaishnavi Munukutia were the pick of the bowlers with three each, while Emma Stilve took two.

Geelong vs Plenty Valley

The visitors batted first, and after a shaky start they made a competitive 8/181. Extras outscored them all, but Rachel Hegarty made 38 and Prabhleen Sandhu made 35.

Aisha Hendriks had a stellar day with the ball for Geelong, taking 3/27 off 10 overs. This included two maidens. Sophie Walsh took 2/22 off eight overs, which included two maidens.

Plenty Valley struck early in Geelong’s innings to have the hosts reeling at 2/0. Geelong never recovered from there and were dismissed for 91 in just over 32 overs. Extras made up almost half of Geelong’s score, with only two batters making a double figure score.

For the Bats, Anusha Joshi had a stellar afternoon, taking 3/5 off four overs, which included two maidens. Aanliya Cheeran and Sandhu took two wickets each.

Carlton vs Prahran

In the battle of the Blues vs the True Blues, it was Carlton who batted first and posted 3/180. Bridie Groves struck 103 to really make Carlton’s total competitive, but without her the Blues score could have been very different. Ellen Williams and Daisy Gee were the only wicket takers for Prahran.

In reply, Prahran had an early collapse and never recovered, bowled out for 106 after only 31 overs. Kirrily Bruce made 27, while Paris Bowdler could not back up her stellar batting from the weekend, only making 21.

Groves also had a stellar game with the ball for Carlton, taking 3/17 off five overs. Grace Kerwin and Claudia O’Neill took two wickets each.
