Marg Jennings Cup Grand Finallists set
After the final round of matches of the Marg Jennings Cup for 2021/22, there were only two undefeated sides left – Melbourne and Dandenong, They will play off in a Grand Final today.
But before that, the last round of matches took place yesterday, so let us take a look at what happened on the final match day.
Geelong vs Prahran
Down in Geelong, it was the Cats who batted first and made a decent score of 9/154 off their 50 overs. They lost their first wicket fairly cheaply for 17 but things improved from there. Maddie Green made a run a ball 53 to lead the Cats’ scoring.
Meanwhile for the True Blues, captain Elizabeth Cormack was the best of the bowlers with three, while Maddison Heitlinger, Ellen Williams and Samara Dulvin all took two each.
In reply, Prahran lost their first wicket for only 13, but recovered to get the win inside 34 overs. A 66 from Dulvin ensured Prahran got the points.
Essendon Maribyrnong Park vs Plenty Valley
The Bombers batted first, and were dismissed for 181 in 31 overs. Samohn Hereora top scored with 31. Delaney Lafy was a star with the ball for the Bats with 3/28 off her eight overs, which included one maiden.
In reply, Plenty Valley lost their first wicket for only two runs, and then found themselves at 3/25. They recovered slightly but ultimately fell short, reaching only 8/166 in their 50 overs.
Amanpreet Kaur took three wickets for the victors, while Aarzu Mavi took two.
Dandenong vs Box Hill
Dandenong were sent into bat, and after losing their first two wickets very cheaply, they recovered to post 7/170 off their 50 overs. A 58 from Evie Stansby was the highlight of the innings.
Emma Stilve and Isabel White were the best of the Mustangs’ bowlers with two wickets apiece.
A strong bowling performance from the Panthers saw them rip through the Mustangs batting line up and dismiss them for a mere 49 runs. Poppy Gardner had an absolute field day with the ball, taking 4/15 off her seven and a half overs, which included one maiden.
Thivyaa Mahendran and Uvindee Wijesena took two wickets each.
Melbourne vs Carlton
After a slight middle order collapse where they lost 2/0, Melbourne certainly recovered and made an impressive 206 before they were dismissed. Hasrat Gill scored 63 to really set up the foundations of the innings.
Sienna Sims was the best of the Blues bowlers, taking 3/31 from four overs.
In reply, the Blues never really got going, and could only make 142 before they were dismissed. Lucy Page was a star with the ball for the Dees, taking 4/46 off nine overs, which included two maidens.
Ringwood vs Greenvale Kangaroos
Down at Russell Lucas Oval the Rams batted first, and lost too many wickets too cheaply on their way to being all out for 208. In reply though, they ripped through the Kangaroos’ order to bowl them out for 186 and end their campaign on a high with a win.
For the Rams, Erin Carroll and Keely Miutescu each took three wickets, while for the losers, Lily Pelosi, Isabella Shaw, Kailey O’Donnell and Ellie Liron all took two wickets each.
