Victorian Women’s Premier Cricket: 2nds and 3rds wrap

Last weekend was a bit of an odd one in the second and third XI competitions, with only three matches taking place in each grade as Box Hill, Ringwood and Dandenong all had pre-fixtured byes in both grades.

Despite the lack of matches, let us take a look at what did take place in action across either competition.

Essendon Maribyrnong Park vs Plenty Valley

2nd XI

It was the Bombers who won the toss and sent Plenty Valley into bat. The Bats made 9/142 off their 45 overs, with extras their top scorer. Of the actual batters, Chelsea De Silva managed the most with 22, while Jasleen Kaur made 21.

For the Bombers, Emily Maisey took two wickets, while Aarzu Mavi, Taylah Casson, Amelia Sevior, Hannah Brne and Ruby James all took one.

In reply, it only took the Bombers just over 24 overs to reach the target, with Jane Neil top scoring with 27. For Plenty Valley, Pearl Kapoor, Kaur and Anusha Joshi each took a wicket.

3rd XI

Unfortunately a COVID outbreak swept through the Plenty Valley camp, so this clash was abandoned on the morning of the match.

Prahran vs Melbourne

2nd XI

Prahran batted first, and after they lost a few wickets early they recovered to post 7/210. Madeleine Stirling top scored with 48, while Meika King made 45. For the Dees, Vanchica Pathania and Breannon Sutton took two wickets each.

Despite the big target, Melbourne still reached it with just under four overs to spare. The innings was built off the back of a superb innings from Elly Donald, who blasted 90.

For the True Blues, Samantha Arscott was by far the best of the bowlers, taking 3/33 off seven overs. Ava Bennett took 2/42 off eight overs, while Madeline Waring took one.

3rd XI

Melbourne batted first, and made 5/194 off their 40 overs. A 69 from Kamya Mishra was the backbone of the innings, while Jessica Bohn got the innings off to a good start with 32.

For Prahran, it was all individual wicket takers, with Ava Evans, Anna Quinsey-Munro and Emma Johnston on the wicket takers list.

In reply, no one really got a start for Prahran and in turn they were bowled out for 100. For the Dees, Sahana Tarin was on fire with the ball, taking 4/32 from her eight overs. Parry Jenkins also had a great innings with the ball, taking 3/7 off six overs, which included a maiden.

Geelong vs Carlton

2nd XI

Geelong won the toss and decided to bat first. It didn’t get off to a great start when they found themselves at 3/23, but they did recover somewhat to make 7/138 off their 45 overs. Aisha Hendriks was the top scorer with 38.

For Carlton, it was Mia Earl who was the star with the ball, taking 3/19 off seven overs, with one maiden. Hannah Flood took two wickets, while Bridie Groves took one.

In reply, Carlton lost three wickets in quick succession to find themselves at 3/35 but did recover to reach the target with just over eight overs to go. It was Groves who top scored with 36, while for the Cats, Bronte Leishman was the top wicket taker with three.

3rd XI

Carlton batted first, and lost too many wickets too quickly on the way to 8/118 off their 40 overs. No one got much of a start for the Blues, as Alyse O’Connell top scored with 33 not out. For Geelong, Charlotte Poyner and Summer Don were the best of the bowlers, taking two wickets apiece.

Geelong only needed 33 overs to reach the target, off the back of a 45 from Heidi Schneider. For Carlton, it was Stefania Pauga who was the top wicket taker, taking 2/13 off 2.4 overs.
