Victorian Women’s Premier Cricket: 2nds and 3rds wrap – Part 1

LAST weekend saw the final T20 double header in the Victorian Premier Cricket Women’s 2nds and 3rds competitions for the season. In part one of this report, we take a look at what transpired in the morning matches across both grades.

In the morning round, it was Essendon Maribyrnong Park who had the bye in both grades.

Melbourne vs Ringwood

2nd XI

Ringwood batted first, and with a combination of tight bowling from the Dees and the regular loss of wickets, they were only able to post 4/99 off their 20 overs. Sophie Rohkamper top scored for the Rams with 28. For the Dees, Ella Stallwood, Felicity Leighton, Lucy Page and Limansa Thilakarathna all took a wicket each.

In reply, Melbourne didn’t really have any trouble reaching the target off the back of a 45 from Stallwood. Breannan Harris and Haylee Landi were the Rams’ only wicket takers with one apiece.

3rd XI

Unfortunately due to Covid protocols, Ringwood was unable to field a side so the match was called off.

Dandenong vs Prahran

2nd XI

Dandenong won the toss and decided to send the True Blues into bat. Prahran quickly found themselves at 1/2 and that in hindsight that was a sign of things to come.

They ultimately finished on 6/89 off their 20 overs, with only two batters making a double figure score. Jemma Heitlinger top scored with 30. For the Panthers, Jessica Sanders and captain Zoe Burke were the top wicket takers with two apiece.

The chase went down to the wire, but Dandenong fell agonisingly short. They ultimately finished on 8/88 off their 20 overs. For Prahran, Alexander Clancy was the pick of the bowlers with 3/10 off two overs.

3rd XI

Dandenong batted first, and made 5/85 off their 20 overs. No one really got a start for the Panthers, with Meera Hyderabad’s 23 the top score. For the True Blues, it was Jazz Anslee who topped the bowling tally with two wickets.

For Prahran, the chase was pretty straightforward and they reached the target halfway through the 16th over. Rasandi Padmaperuma top scored with 33.

Box Hill vs Carlton

2nd XI

Box Hill made 5/60 from their 20 overs, with only two batters making double figure scores. For the Blues, it was Joeline Herathge and Gemma Boyd were the pick of the bowlers with two wickets each.

In response, the target was not a challenge for the Blues, as they were able to reach the target easily without losing a wicket.

3rd XI

Box Hill batted first, and made 7/100 off their 20 overs. Only two batters made double figure scores though, as Extras was the top scorer. For the Blues, Sarah Byrne was a star with the ball, taking 3/15 off her three overs.

Although it came down to the wire, Carlton were still able to get over the line and take the win. Extras top scored for Carlton too. For Box Hill, Ashmita Dixit and Bhanu Mahendran both took two wickets.

Plenty Valley vs Geelong

2nd XI

Plenty Valley batted first, and made 4/82 off their 20 overs. Rachel Webb top scored with 20. For the Cats, Marni Luhrs was the top wicket taker with two. In reply, the Cats didn’t even need eight overs to reach the target. Chloe McKenzie top scored with 25.

3rd XI

Plenty Valley batted first, and due to relentless pressure from the Cats they only made 7/66 off their 20 overs. Only two batters made double figure scores.

For the Cats, Charlotte Poyner was exceptional with the ball, taking 3/5 off three overs, which included one maiden. In reply, Geelong didn’t even need six overs to reach the target, and also did not lose a wicket.
