Victorian Women’s Premier Cricket: 2nds and 3rds wrap – Part 2

LAST weekend saw the final T20 double header in the Victorian Premier Cricket Women’s 2nds and 3rds competition for the season, so in part two of this report, we take a look at what transpired in the afternoon matches across both grades. In the afternoon round, it was Ringwood who had the bye in both grades.

Dandenong vs Box Hill

2nd XI

Dandenong batted first, and after some great bowling from their opponents they were only able to post 7/81 off their 20 overs. Rachel Heenan top scored with 34, but she was only one of two batters to make double figures. For the Mustangs, Tanya Arul, Ellen Bradley and Katherine Dekel all took two wickets.

In reply, some exceptional bowling from the Panthers meant that Box Hill were restricted to 8/56. Amelie Gladman was the only Mustangs batter to make double figures. For the Panthers, Natalie Taylor and Thivya Mahendran were the stars with the ball.

Taylor took 4/8 off her four overs, which included one maiden. Mahendran on the other hand took 3/8 off her four overs, which also included one maiden.

3rd XI

Box Hill had a disastrous innings with the bat. No one made double figures, but thanks to extras they were able to reach 9/70 off their 20 overs. For Dandenong, skipper Montana Phillips was the star with the ball, taking 3/10 off her four overs, which included one maiden. Mannat Chadha and Stefanie Harris both took two wickets as well. In reply, Dandenong only needed 12 overs to reach the target, and they didn’t lose a wicket in the process.

Carlton vs Prahran

2nd XI

After getting off to a slow start, Carlton recovered somewhat to post 5/105 off their 20 overs. Sara Burns top scored with 46. Maddison Heitlinger was the pick of Prahran’s bowlers, taking 2/18 off her four overs.

In response, Prahran also had a slow start, but never recovered and could only post 8/74 off their 20 overs. For Carlton, Hannah Flood and Mia Earl were the top wicket takers with two each.

3rd XI

Carlton batted first, and made 8/76 off their 20 overs. Taylah Mason top scored with 25. For Prahran, Anna Quinsey-Munro was the best of the bowlers with two wickets.

In reply, although they lost a lot of wickets Prahran still reached the target in 12 overs. Rasandi Padmaperuma top scored for the True Blues with 28. For Carlton, it was Mason who topped the bowling cards too, taking 3/27 off her three overs.

Melbourne vs Plenty Valley

2nd XI

Plenty Valley chose to bat first, and after losing the first few wickets cheaply they ultimately posted 4/63 off their 20 overs. For the Dees, Madalyn Smith was the best of the bowlers with two wickets. In reply, the Dees were able to reach the target within 10 overs off the back of a 43 from Ella Stallwood.

3rd XI

Melbourne batted first, and off the back of a 74 from Jessica Bohn the Dees posted a massive 0/146 off their 20 overs. In reply, it was always going to be tough for the Bats to reach the target, and they were only able to post 5/57 off their 20 overs.

Geelong vs EMP

2nd XI

Geelong batted first, and lost too many wickets too quickly on their way to being bowled out for 65. For EMP, Lou Lou Field, Aarzu Mavi, Amanpreet Kaur and Amelia Sevior all took two wickets. In reply, the Bombers certainly took their time but still made the target with an over and a half to spare.

3rd XI

Geelong batted first, and they posted a very competitive 4/138 off their 20 overs off the back of a 50 from Bianca Deckker. For the Bombers, Amy Hoang was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/29 off her four overs.

In reply, the Bombers came close but ultimately fell short. The finished at 6/122 off their 20 overs. Aryahi Khadilkar top scored with 34. For the Cats, it was Summer Don who topped the bowlers list, taking 3/16 off her four overs.
