Victorian Premier Cricket: Womens 1sts preview
THERE are three weeks left in the Victorian Women’s Premier 1sts competition, with matches becoming more and more crucial as the season goes on, particularly for those on the edge of the top four. This weekend sees some absolute cracking matches, and we preview what is in store for fans this weekend.
Melbourne vs Essendon Maribyrnong Park
Albert Ground
The Bombers have the toughest challenge in Premier Women’s Cricket this weekend.
They have to try and defeat the as yet to be defeated Dees, and they must win in order to keep their own finals hopes alive.
They are in such a precarious position at the bottom of the top four, that they really cannot afford to drop another game, especially with the likes of the Mustangs and Rams hot on their heels.
Melbourne on the other hand, will just want to keep being the dominant side they have been all season, and keep building towards the finals.
Ringwood vs Prahran
Russell Lucas Oval
This one is potentially one of the games to watch this weekend.
Neither side can afford to lose any more matches if they want to make the finals, so expect a tight tussle out in Ringwood on Sunday.
It was Ringwood who were victorious last time the two sides met, so Prahran will certainly be hoping history does not repeat itself this weekend.
Dandenong vs Box Hill
Shepley Oval
Another cracking match that could go either way.
This result has got more riding on it for the Mustangs then the Panthers.
Although the Panthers will be certainly looking to win this match to officially confirm their place in the finals, realistically it is not the end of the world if they do lose.
The same cannot be said for Box Hill.
The Mustangs have got to win this match to keep in touch with the top four, otherwise they may be relying on other results going their way to make the top four.
Last time around Dandenong got the chocolates, so the Mustangs will be looking to reverse that result this time around.
Plenty Valley vs Carlton
Yarrambat War Memorial Park
This one is pretty straightforward.
Carlton should win this one, and will be looking to keep their good form and momentum going as they build towards the finals in under a month’s time.
Plenty Valley on the other hand have not won a game all year, and have also lost every single match by a bonus point worthy margin.
