THE NSW Breakers’ season just keeps marching on, this time defeating Western Australia to the tune of eight wickets. The West Australians batted first, and without Amy Edgar they would have been in a lot of trouble.
She was a linchpin of the innings, and without her 85 not out they would have been nowhere near a competitive score, as she was one of only three batters to make a double figure score.
The Western Australians were almost bowled out, but ultimately finished on a very competitive 9/195 from their 50 overs.
Behind Edgar, Piepa Cleary was the next highest scorer with 36, which shows the importance of Edgar’s innings.
Meanwhile for NSW, Sammy-Jo Johnson was the best of the bowlers with three wickets. Maitlin Brown and Erin Burns also took two wickets each.
Despite the competitive score that the West Australians managed to put on the board, it was ultimately no challenge for the Breakers.
The NSW innings did not get off to a great start for the Breakers, when they lost Claire Moore after only putting 12 runs on the board. It did not matter though as Tahlia Wilson and Rachel Trenaman got to work and put on a 149-run partnership and really got the innings back on track.
That partnership ensured the target really was no challenge, and the Breakers reached the target with just over 10 overs to go. Unsurprisingly, it was Trenaman and Wilson who were the top scorers for the Breakers. Trenaman made 90 not out, while Wilson made 67.
Meanwhile for the West Australians, Georgia Wyllie and Molly Healy were the only wicket takers.
This win means the Breakers are still undefeated, while the Western Australians are still searching for their first win this WNCL season.
The Breakers do not have to wait too long to keep this winning momentum going. Their next match is on Monday against Tasmania.
The Western Australians only have to wait one extra day to try and get their first win on the board. Their next match is on Tuesday against Queensland.
