Fortunes reverse as Meteors get one back over Scorpions
IN quite the result reversal from only a few days ago, the ACT Meteors’ topsy turvy season got back on track with a 110-run win over South Australia.
After a century from Katie Mack, the ACT’s bowlers ripped through the Scorpion line-up to record the comfortable win.
The Scorpions actually sent the Meteors into bat first, and after a 69-run opening partnership from Mack and Erica Kershaw, you could tell what kind of innings was about to transpire. However, without Mack’s innings of 107, things could have been very different for the Meteors. While a number of batters for a bit of a start, Mack was the only one to make a score upwards of 40.
Meanwhile for the South Australians, Ellie Falconer was the chief destroyer with the ball, taking 5/56 off her 10 overs. Brooke Harris also took two wickets off her nine overs, but all the South Australian bowlers were very expensive.
In reply, despite a brief partnership of resistance between Emma de Broughe and Courtney Webb, the South Australian innings was a disaster. The Scorpions found themselves at 2/28 at the end of the 10th over, before a 79-run partnership between de Broughe and Webb brought the one highlight from the innings for the Scorpions.
To say that the rest of the lineup failed would be an understatement.
Apart from those two, Tegan McPharlin was the only other batter to make a double figure score. In the end, the Scorpions were bowled out for 172 after 43 overs.
Ffor the Meteors, Chloe Rafferty and Gabrielle Sutcliffe were the pick of the bowlers with three wickets apiece. Amy Yates took two wickets, while Zoe Cooke took the remaining wicket.
Both sides have at least one match left this season. Both are technically still in contention for the final, but have to hope Queensland beat New South Wales in order to have any hope of making it.
The ACT is back at it tomorrow against Western Australia, while South Australia has got a match against Victoria on Monday.
