Hinkley the star as Fire scorches Warriors

QUEENSLAND Fire have won their second game in a row in the WNCL, while extending Western Australia’s winless run this season.

After Western Australia posted a very competitive 7/208 from their 50 overs, a 121 not out from Mikayla Hinkley meant that the Fire were never going to have much trouble chasing down the target.

The Fire actually sent the West Aussies into bat first, and the Fire did not have to wait long before they struck with their first wicket, dismissing Maddy Darke at the end of the third over. Holly Ferling then struck only two overs later to leave the Western Australians at 2/12. That was then when things really turned around for Western Australia.

Chloe Piparo and Mathilda Carmichael then put on an 80 run partnership to turn things around for their side and ensure they could post the competitive total they did. Those two ultimately also ended being the top scorers for their side too. Piparo made 46 while Carmichael made 45.

Meanwhile for the Queenslanders, the wicket taking load was shared pretty evenly, but Georgia Voll did top the tally with two to her name.

Although the Queensland got off to a bit of a disaster when they found themselves 1/8 in the second over, it wasn’t long before Hinkley got to work and belted her stellar innings.

And it proved to be an extremely vital innings too as the rest of her team failed around her. She was the only one to make more then 20 runs, with three of her team mates failing to even make 10 runs before they were dismissed.

Meanwhile for the Western Australians, Piepa Cleary really tried to keep her side in the match, taking 3/36 off her 10 overs. Charis Bekker chimed in with two wickets of her own, but there really was no stopping Hinkley.

Both sides have one match left in their home and away seasons.

The Queenslanders have the daunting task of facing New South Wales on Tuesday, while the Western Australians have got the ACT tomorrow.
