AUSTRALIA is the first team into the ICC Women’s World Cup final, after comfortably beating the West Indies to the tune of 157 runs.

The win was set up by Rachel Haynes and Alyssa Healy, who put on a whopping 216-run opening partnership for the Australians.

Sent into bat, the West Indies’ descision looked a shocker as the runs continued to pile on across the Aussie stars’ first wicket stand.

Haynes and Healy just could not be dismissed, and it took the West Indies until the 33rd over to dislodge either of them.

Although the Australians only put on 89 more runs for the rest of the innings, it did not matter as the damage was largely already dealt. Australia finished with 3/305 from its rain-affacted 45 over allotment.

Healy smashed 129, while Haynes made 85. Beth Mooney was also on track for a half century of her own, but ran out of overs and ultimately finished on an unbeaten 43.

Meanwhile for the West Indies, Chinelle Henry was the best of the bowlers with two wickets, while Shamilia Connell took one.

It was always going to be a tough task for the West Indies to reach the tally, but the task was made more difficult when they started two batters down. Henry and Anisa Mohammed were unable to bat due to injury.

It was also made harder when they lost their first wicket in the fourth over with only 12 runs on the board.

Things went downhill from there. Only three batters made double figure scores, and the West Indies were bowled out in a whimper for 148 after 37 overs.

Stefanie Taylor fell two runs short of a half century, while both Deandra Dottin and Hayley Matthews made 34 runs apiece.

Meanwhile for the Australians, the wicket taking duties were shared evenly. Only one bowler didn’t snare a wicket, as Jess Jonassen topped the tally with two.  

Next, the Australians wait in anticipation to see who they will meet in the final. It will be either the South Africans or the English, with the semi final between the two countries taking place today.
