WNCL Top Performers: 1/2 October 2022

LAST weekend saw more WNCL action across the country, with four teams in action – ACT, NSW, Queensland and Western Australia.

Across the four games there were plenty of star performances, so let us take a look at those now.

Brown breaks Warriors

If there was an award for Player of the Weekend, it’d have to go to young NSW star Maitlin Brown, who although was expensive, took plenty of wickets for the Breakers in their wins over Western Australia.

In game one of the pair of matches, she took 4/41 off only 5.5 overs as NSW won by eight runs under the Duckworth Lewis system.

In the second game of the weekend, she took another three wickets, this time finishing with 3/60 off her nine overs as the Breakers won by 58 runs.

Brown not the only Breaker to star

Brown was not the only Breaker to have a great game over the weekend.

In the first game of the weekend Erin Burns picked up a half century, while in the second game there were a pair of centurions. Tahlia Wilson finished on 101 while Phoebe Litchfield finished on 107.

Queensland’s batters on Fire

Queensland continued their great start to the season over the weekend, comfortably defeating the ACT twice to maintain their undefeated start to the season.

The core of the Fire’s success on the weekend was their batters.

In game one, Laura Harris sped her way to a century, hitting 101 off only 54 balls. In the process she hit the fastest ever century in the WNCL.

In the same game Mikayla Hinkley joined in on the batting fun, bashing a 65 not out of her own.

Meanwhile in game two skipper Georgia Redmayne hit 62 not out as the Fire made light work of the Meteors’ total.

Not all doom and gloom for WA

Despite not picking up a win over the weekend, Western Australia still had some shining lights.

In game one, Beth Mooney had another great game with the bat, making 53, while Mathilda Carmichael did even better, making 68.

With the ball, Piepa Cleary was dangerous but a bit expensive, taking 3/30 off her seven overs.

In game two it was Chloe Piparo and Maddy Darke who were the stars with the bat, making 55 and 51 respectively.
