Joyful Jones performance sees England go two up

A MASTERFUL innings from Player of the Match Amy Jones and equally masterful bowling from Lauren Bell has seen England take a handy two games to nil lead over the West Indies in their One-Day series.

Choosing to bat first, the English got off to a fairly solid start, posting a 42-run opening stand between Tammy Beaumont and Emma Lamb.

Unfortunately for the English, no following partnership would quite live up to that. Their remaining pairs all conjured 20 to 30 runs, but at the cost of constant wickets. So much so, they were bowled out with 11 balls left in their innings for 260.

It could have been even less, but the West Indies gave away their fair share of extras. An sundries total of 20 (including a whopping 18 wides) outscored about half of the English line up.

One of the players the extras tally did not outscore was Jones, who was a mainstay in the back end of the innings and made a very handy unbeaten 70. Sophia Dunkley also had a very good innings with the bat, making 57.

Meanwhile for the West Indies, skipper Hayley Matthews was the pick of the bowlers, picking up 3/50. Aaliyah Alleyene and Afy Fletcher both picked up two wickets.

In response the West Indies were in trouble from the get go, floundering at 4/8 after only 19 balls.

That poor start meant that a West Indian win was near impossible, and that was proven in the 32nd over when they were bowled out for a mere 118.

Much of that early carnage came off the bowling of Bell, who went on to take 4/33 off her eight overs. Kate Cross, Sophie Ecclestone and Charlie Dean all chipped in with two wickets apiece.

Meanwhile for the West Indies, the only batter to get any kind of start was Rashada Williams, who went on to make 54 not out.

The final one-dayer of the series is set to get underway on Saturday morning Australian time, before the series moves to the T20 portion.
