Big hitters to the rescue as Aussies regain series lead

Excellent batting exploits from Ellyse Perry and Grace Harris, combined with great bowling from Darcie Brown and Ash Gardner has seen the Aussies defeat India by 21 runs and regain the lead in their best of five series.

Batting first, the Aussies got into a little bit of trouble early, as they found themselves at 2-5 halfway through the second over.

Perry and Beth Mooney then steadied the ship, before Perry and Harris got things going for the visitors.

Although, the Aussies kept losing wickets and were dangerously close to being bowled out, but ultimately finished on a very competitive 8-172 from their 20 overs.

Perry finished on 75 while Harris finished on 41, however the only other batter to make a double figure score was Mooney, who finished on 30.

Meanwhile for the Indians, Renuka Singh, Anjali Sarvani, Deepti Sharma and Devika Vaidya all took two wickets each.

In reply, the Indians got off to a slightly better start than the Aussies had, but it was not until the third wicket partnership of Shafali Verma and Harmanpreet Kaur that the run chase really lot going, with the pair putting on a 73-run partnership.

Once Verma was dismissed, things started to slow down again for India, and ultimately no other partnership could reach the heights that Verma and Kaur’s partnership had.

Ultimately they ran out of overs to reach the tally, only reaching 7/151 off their 20 overs.

Verma was the top scorer for the home side, finishing on 52, while Kaur made a handy 37 and Sharma made a handy cameo of 25 not out at the back end of the innings.

Meanwhile for the Aussies it was Brown and Gardner who were the pick of the bowlers, picking up two wickets each, while Megan Schutt and Nicola Carey also picked up a wicket each for their troubles.

The series continues Sunday morning, Australian time.
