Aussies clinch series, but at a cost

AUSTRALIA has won its T20 series against India with one match left to go, after defeating the hosts last night by seven runs. The win however came at a cost, with captain Alyssa Healy injuring her calf.

Batting first, the Aussies got off to a quick fire start before losing their first wicket halfway through the fourth over.

Though, it was not until the fourth wicket partnership between Ash Gardner and Ellyse Perry that things really got going.

The pair put on a 94-run partnership to turn up the degree of difficulty for the chase on the Indians.

Perry continued her strong vein run scoring form alongside Grace Harris to ensure the tally really was going to be as competitive as possible.

That tally ultimately finished on 3-188 off the Australian’s 20 overs, with Perry finishing on 72 unbeaten and Gardner on 42.

Meanwhile for the Indians, Deepti Sharma was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Radha Yadav picked up one.

India also got off to a fast start before losing its first wicket in the third over.

However, unlike their visitors, the Indians saw wickets tumble more regularly. One reprieve was the 72-run fourth wicket partnership between Harmanpreet Kaur and Devika Vaidya, which ensured the hosts were in with a fighting chance.

Richa Ghosh also tried her hardest to get the Indians over the line and they ultimately got pretty close to reaching the Australian’s total, but ultimately fell agonisingly short.

Kaur was the top scorer for the home side with 46, while Ghosh finished on 40 not out.

Meanwhile for the Australians, Gardner and Alana King were top of the wicket taking tally, picking up two wickets each, while Darcie Brown took the other wicket.

The series finishes up with the final game on Wednesday.
