Excellent English continue winning ways

THE English success train just keeps on rolling, this time defeating the West Indies by 17 runs.

Excellent batting innings from Sophia Dunkley and Heather Knight, and a wonderful bowling performance by Charlie Dean all helped set up the win.

Batting first, the English got off to a fast start, going at about eight runs an over before they ultimately lost their first wicket halfway though the eighth over.

A strong partnership at the back end of the innings between Knight and Alice Davidson-Richards got accelerated the English total up to what was a competitive 6/157, after a slight slump.

Dunkley top scored with 44, while Knight made one less on 43. Meanwhile, the wicket taking duties were shared evenly between Windies bowlers Hayley Matthews, Sheneta Grimmond, Afy Fletcher and Aaliyah Alleyne.

The West Indies also got off to a fast start to kick off the run chase, ticking over seven per over before they lost their first wicket after three overs.

The chase was shaping up nicely with a few overs to go, but then slowed right down towards the end, ultimately falling 17 runs short.

Also, as has become a common occurrence this tour, the extras count outscored a fair number of the West Indian batters.

The extras count of 18 (which included a whopping 17 wides) outscored seven of the batters, but it did not outscore Rashada Williams and Matthews, who were the top scorers with 38 and 35 respectively.

Meanwhile for the English, Dean took 4-19 off her four overs, which included a maiden. Sophie Ecclestone also took two wickets.

The penultimate match of the series is set for tomorrow morning Australian time, before the series wraps up the morning of the December 23.
