Groundhog day continues for Windies as Bell strikes again

THANKS to another brilliant spell from Lauren Bell, Groundhog Day has continued for the West Indies as England race towards a series clean sweep.

The penultimate T20 of the series saw England sweep through the West Indian tail to take a 49 run.

The English chose to bat first, and did not get off to the greatest of starts, losing their first wicket inside three overs with only 15 runs on the board.

That slow start ultimately hampered the English side’s ability to make a big score, and it was made worse when Cherry-Ann Fraser had arguably the best over of the entire series from a West Indian perspective. She took three wickets in an over to really hamper England’s chances of making a big score.

She was one of the equal highest wicket takers for the West Indies (alongside Sheneta Grimmond) as the West Indians restricted the English to 8/131.

Sophia Dunkley was again the top scorer for the English, but only made 35 this time around.

This was one of the West Indies’ best chance to finally snatch a win off the tourists, but got off to an absolutely disastrous start when they lost the first wicket after four balls with only one run on the board. Wicket number two fell just two balls later, and that was a sign of what was to come.

The third wicket partnership was much better at 41 runs, but no other partnership would ultimately get anywhere close to that for the rest of the innings.

In the end the home side were bowled out for a mere 82 after 16 overs.

As she so often is, Hayley Matthews was the top scorer (with 23), but only two of her team mates made a double digit score.

Meanwhile for the English Bell topped the wicket tally, with 4/12 off her three overs.

Sophie Ecclestone and Charlie Dean picked up two wickets each.

The series finishes up with one final T20 match on Friday morning Australian time.
