Graham’s hatrick heroics sees Aussies close out series
THANKS to some heroics with the bat from Ash Gardner and Grace Harris and the ball from Heather Graham, the Australians have ended their series in the subcontinent with a 54 run win over India.
Batting first, the Australians had a new batting combination at the top of the order with Alyssa Healy missing through injury.
However the new opening partnership of Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield did not really flourish as they only lasted seven balls before Mooney was dismissed.
The Aussies were only going at about a run a ball for the first half of the innings before the Gardner and Harris partnership came to the crease.
The pair put on a 139-run partnership to get the Aussie final tally up to the very daunting 4/196 at the end of the innings.
Gardiner finished on 66 not out while Harris made 64 not out.
In reply, the Indians got off to an even worse start than the Australians had, losing their first wicket after only four balls with as many runs on the board.
India kept putting solid enough partnerships together but kept losing wickets and those partnerships were not more than about 20 or 30 runs each.
Graham ripped through much of the later half of the Indian batting line up, including a very unique hattrick which stretched across two different overs.
India just kept losing too many wickets, and was ultimately bowled out for 142 on the final ball of the 20th over.
Deepti Sharma topped the run tally with 53, a fair way ahead of second highest Harleen Deol who only made 24.
Unfortunately for India, while a lot of its batters made a double digit score, many of them did not make it past the teens.
Meanwhile for the Aussies, Graham was the star with the ball, taking four wickets, while Gardner claimed two scalps of her own.
