WNCL Round Up: Post-WBBL Edition

WITH the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) season done and dusted, Australia’s domestic one-day competition is back in action. We take you through all the latest Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) results.

Tasmania vs. NSW

Game 1

Game 1 saw a dominant display from reigning champions, Tasmania to defeat NSW by 10 wickets.

After bowling the Breakers out for only 129 inside 40 overs, the Tasmanian openers got to work and got the job done in 21 overs.

Rachel Trenaman had to retire on 41, but Lizelle Lee was the real star of the show, finishing on 71 not out.

Molly Strano picked up four wickets for the victors, while Sarah Coyte snared three.

Game 2

Game two was more of a competitive affair, but still saw Tasmania get over the line by seven wickets.

After NSW was bowled out for 226. the Tasmanians reached the target halfway through the 38th over.

Lee again made a solid score, finishing on 70, while Emma Manix-Geeves finished unbeaten on 76 alongside Naomi Stalenberg (50).

Coyte had another great day with the ball, taking a whopping five wickets, while Strano took two.

Meanwhile for the Breakers, Sammy-Jo Johnson snared two poles, while Claire Moore made 60.

South Australia vs. ACT Meteors

Game 1

The ACT’s poor start to the season continued, losing to South Australia by 98 runs.

After South Australia whacked an ominous 3/322, the Meteors could only muster 224 before they were bowled out in the 45th over.

Madeline Penna starred with 98 not out, while Annie O’Neil made 74 unbeaten. Jemma Barsby and Kate Peterson both took three wickets.

Despite Katie Mack’s 79, it was ultimately not enough to get her Meteors over the line.

Game 2

Things did not go any better for the home side in the return fixture, with the Scorpions winning by 68 runs.

South Australia batted first and made 5/298, and then restricted the Meteors to 8/230 off their 50 overs.

Emma de Broughe starred with the bat for South Australia with 112, while Josie Dooley made 77.

Samantha Betts took three wickets, while Anesu Mushangwe snared two.

Amy Yates also took two wickets for the Meteors, and Annie Wikman tried to keep her team in it with the bat, making 63.

Western Australia vs. Queensland

Game 1

Queensland suffered its first loss of the season, going down to Western Australian comprehensively by 10 wickets.

After Queensland was bowled out for only 146 after 35 overs, Chloe Piparo (64*) and Maddy Darke (63*) got the job done inside 25 overs.

Lilly Mills was the star with the ball for Western Australia, picking up five wickets, while Amy Edgar nabbed three of her own.

Game 2

Queensland bounced back from its first loss of the season with a solid six-wicket win over Western Australia.

After bowling the West Aussies out for 222, the Fire reached the target with nine overs in hand.

Laura Harris starred with the bat for the victors, making 60 not out, while Charli Knott also made a strong contribution of 56 and two wickets.

But she was not the top wicket taker, with Courtney Sippel and Georgia Prestwidge both taking three each.

Meanwhile for the West Aussies, Lilly Mills took two wickets while Mathilda Carmichael top scored with 53.
