Gardner the big mover in latest rankings
THE latest women’s cricket player rankings are out, and a few movers and shakers have shaken up the order.
Women’s Twenty20 cricket has a new top allrounder, and after a strong showing in the most recent series in India it is Ash Gardner who is now top of the allrounders ranking. She is comfortably at the top of the tally, New Zealand’s Sophie Devine and Indian Deepti Sharma. Gardner is not the only Aussie to climb up the allrounder rankings, with Tahlia McGrath jumping into the top ten.
The allrounder rankings is not the only place Gardner has been climbing the rankings ladder. Her performances with the bat in India saw her jump up to seventh in the batting rankings, while McGrath and fellow Aussie Beth Mooney holding the top two spots in the batting rankings.
Moving across to the Twenty20 bowling ranking, and it is English pair Sophie Ecclestone and Sarah Glenn who occupy the top two spots, with Sharma at third. The highest placed Aussie in the bowling ranking is the 10th placed Megan Schutt.
There are also plenty of Aussies occupying the top of the three One Day International player rankings too. The top two batters are Alyssa Healy and Mooney, while Jess Jonassen and Schutt second and third in the bowling rankings behind Ecclestone. Ellyse Perry is the top ODI all rounder, with Gardner and Jonassen in at seventh and eighth respectively.
Looking at the Twenty20 team rankings, and it is the Aussies who remain on top at the end of the 2022 calendar year. They sit atop the tree over second placed England, and third placed New Zealand.
The Aussies and English also occupy the top two of the ODI team rankings, but it is South Africa, not New Zealand who sit in third on those rankings.
