Wolf of South Africa? Australians name squad for title defence

THE Australians have named the squad that they will take to the 2023 T20 World Cup, which takes place in South Africa next month.

The 15 player squad, named this morning, will also contest the T20 portion of the upcoming series against Pakistan, which is scheduled to happen later this month.

The list is largely the same one that toured India last month, but there are two changes to the roster.

Unsurprisingly after she was named in the ODI side for the Pakistan series, Meg Lanning has also been named in the T20 squad, and will make her international return to the format after a six month break.

The other addition is Georgia Wareham, who returns to the Australian team after doing her ACL in late 2021.

This marks a rapid return for Wareham, who only returned to playing for Victoria last week in their WNCL clashes with New South Wales.

The Victorian pair replace Phoebe Litchfield and Nicola Carey, who have both been omitted.

The unlucky face to miss out again is Amanda-Jade Wellington, who despite solid performances for South Australia and the Adelaide Strikers, cannot break into the team over the likes of Alana King.

Kim Garth also keeps her place in the squad, and is set to head to her third World Cup but first in Australian colours.
